thats insane i got a 2018 rav4 for my dad and the extended warranty on that was only $580 for 8yr 100k. No way a camry warranty is 3k. Just out of curiousity is that price they gave you only for the warranty or is it for other stuff like tire and rim protection and dent repair, etc.
wow. Just for the extended warranty. It looks like I was clearly getting ripped off.

not sure if it’s still allowed by Toyota but I remember you used to be able to buy Toyota/Lexus platinum warranty from other dealers online. If that’s still the case you can use those other quotes to lower the price that you are getting.

You get a full warranty for 36 months, 36k miles. You get powertrain warranty for 60 months, 60k miles. Why would you buy an "extended" warranty when you've owned it for 36 minutes??? Buy in 3 years. Your "extended" warranty adds absolutely nothing those first 3 years. And in the case of powertrain, 5 years.

I truly don't see why not at that price. I firmly believe in Murphy's Law and I enjoy the peace of mind since I tend to (over)stress about issues with my car.

For example when I purchased my F10, it fully passed a PPI but I still purchased a third party extended warranty which was ~$3,000 for 36 months and 36,000 miles. Now it may seem kinda expensive for not that long of coverage but within the first 30 days my oil pan started leaking, oil filter housing gasket started leaking, and a front axle needed replacing. Murphy's law. The repair bill was well over $5,000 which means the warranty paid for itself within the first month and I had a new 7 series as a loaner for the week. I have not had any issues with the car since and even if I don't need to use the warranty again, I easily got my money back and I don't have to worry if shit hits the fan again.

This is the quote of the thread! End of story. I thought the same thing. Toyota was so funny bc they said you need the extended warranty bc it’s made by BMW and it will break down. I was like if that’s the case, why even buy the Supra bc your making it sound like a piece of shit. They were trying to add an additional $100 onto my monthly payment. I was like ummmm fk no!

That's a used car, out of warranty. Doesn't apply. This is a new vehicle with warranty.

Lol I am not comparing the two in any way, shape, or form, I’m not really sure how you got that out of my comment. I’m purely telling you why my mindset is the way it is and giving you an example of how it worked out for me.

I'm glad it did. But if the same thing were to happen to your Supra, the factory warranty for the first 5 years would take care of that, for free. So the point is, for a new car, with warranty, the extended warranty is useless until the factory warranty runs out.
The 7 year warranty you bought, is only good for year 6 and 7, because year 1 through 5 is already covered. Now for $900 that ain't so bad. But for $5k that's awful.

That is just for powertrain though, there are many other parts of the car that can go wrong outside of the powertrain for year 4,5,6, and 7.

I have only mentioned the $923 one. With the cost of dealership labor rates and prices of parts, if damn near anything breaks outside of warranty it pays for itself in a single visit. I would agree $5,000 may be a little excessive, but it isn;t unreasonable for someone to want to pay for peace of mind for such a large purchase.

Then I'd still wait till the end of year 3. Everything is covered until then. And an extended warranty for 7 years starting at year 4 covers everything through year 10 then instead of year 7. And usually for less money.

You act like he can't get 3 more years added after that since Toyota covers up to 10 years and 125,000 miles regardless. And you have no idea what Toyota's risk/cost analysis will be in 3 years to make the claim it will be less money.

Not acting like anything. Just saying what I would do.

I have never dealt with extended warranty but a simple Google search and I learned that buying extended warranty after the factory warranty expires is apparently even more expensive.

7 year 120k 850 ish? Is what i got. Anything 7 year 100k to 120k miles under a grand get it
totally agree. I didn’t need 100k as they wanted 1200 for it. And plus I drive about 300 miles a month in mine so I would never be close to 100k at 7 years. But yes if you can hedge the value of repairs for under 3% of what you paid for the car it should be a no brainer considering dealer labor rates are like 120/hr just makes sense. I mean just the electronics repair in you car I’m sure would exceed 1k if needed.
