Barry at 3DM can put together this exact setup with any spring rate you want and will revalve the dampers to match. He'll also add helpers/camber plates/etc as you want.
They're very popular with the groups I do HDPEs with. I agree, 30-40% seems about right.
I went the cheap route with RaceChrono Pro and a precision GPS receiver, but it leaves a lot to be desired. Eventually I'll break down and buy the Garmin.
You'll have a blast, and it will set the hook in you for more. Everyone I've met IRL at the track with a Supra has been very friendly and welcoming.
I wouldn't make any mods before that day so you can drive the car bone stock on track. I did a few times and I'm really pleased I did.
Then...
The RS Pro is really not much more than the MCS 2WNR I've been looking at, and the benefits are obvious with the external canister.
Olsen Motorsports has a couple good videos on these johnnies. The low speed adjustment available with the "3" is interesting. Olsen does a really good job...
Mark,
It just so happens the drive to The Glen is about 230 miles for me. I drove there and back on brand new tires and literally saw no indications of inner tire wear.
Beyond that, I've been daily driving my car all summer on the OEM wheels/tires with -3.2 degrees front, and -2 degrees rear...
I can't stress enough how great of an opportunity the NASA HDPE is. Enjoy yourself!
One thing to keep in mind is the use of spacers. I've been using a set to gain inboard clearance with my track wheels and they make the OEM wheels look WAY better lol.
Don't be in a rush to throw mods at your...
I am running 18x10.7 Titan7s with 275-35R18 square Kuhmo V730s.
I am debating between custom Ohlins R&T and MCS 2WNR.
Mind you, I have 16x HDPEs in the car and 3x car control clinics (instruction on a wet skidpad and an AutoX mini-track). I have a really good idea of what I'm trying to...
I'm only running the 5W-30 Special Tech because I drive my car in sub-freezing weather. If I were in Florida I'd be running Motul 8100 X-Cess 5W-40 and call it a day.
That said, the 5W-30 Special Tech will probably work just fine for your intended application.
I can say anecdotally that I am looking to see a 2-4 second improvement in lap times at Lime Rock Park next season (current PB high 1:04s). I am fairly comfortable in this assumption given the performance of similarly modified Supras on this track.
The coilovers will help me get the most out of...
If you're actually going to track the car in HDPEs or other road course type of events you should stay on the stock suspension (struts and spring) and upgrade to coilovers down the road once you learn the car with seat time. It is recommended to stick with Ohlins/MCS/JRZ, and they will be...
I really hope all of this knowledge helps someone else out too. You don't have to spend much money to make a car that's already brilliant on the track as is to the point where it's a track machine.
Pads/fluid, front camber adjustability, and square 18" 275s *cough* Kuhmo 730s *cough* will get...
I agree. This is a big reason why I lurked for a long time here and did a shit ton of research before I posted my thread in the motorsports sub forum. Way better results that way.
