Does EcuTek/Motec have any success in retaining daily drivability/chassis features in a modern BMW? Interested but concerned considering how prolific and successful the existing flash tuning solutions on the market are (mhd, bm3, etc)
You mentioned that each dealer will have 1 supra tech. I assume it's reasonable that you meant "at least" and it's likely many techs at each dealer will be certified in the new hotness for fun/personal growth/redundancy?
EDIT: Are a decent chunk of techs doing this or is it in the minority...
Agreed, n52 is a sweetheart. And Engineering Explained did a video on the 10-15k mile oil change and how modern oils on stock engines really do last that long.
But would WMI actually provide any benefit over the W2A cooler we're getting in this Zupra? Do people see gains on the S55 with wmi? It feels like gains would be on 93 pump from the octane boost only.
Where? I'm genuinely ignorant on this point-- very excited if true.
There are exhausts outside the premium products of Armytrix and Akrapovic for M cars... They're in the standard 1-2k range or less (~750) if you're fine with an axle-back unit. In the n54 world, most exhausts are $600-1300 which doesn't seem unreasonable. As far as 3-5k for an exhaust, that's...
If you want to see real "tax" for aftermarket parts, just look at GTRs and MK4 supras. I've modded a BMW and yeah it's more expensive than my 240sx but it's nothing to a mk4 supra -- they're crazy expensive to modify.
My n54 made 500 ft-lbs @ 2200 rpm with catless downpipes and a tune, these figures seem completely reasonable for those doubters of modern turbo bmw engines.
Fuel is the current limitation on the table for the b58 -- those poor bastards are doing charge pipe injection as their only way to get methanol to boost octane over 450whp. Let's get a sandwich plate/port injection kit because I doubt hpfp upgrades are a reasonable R&D endeavor at this point in...
Direct Injection by BMW has some insane flow rate because the hpfp rockets rail pressure over 3000psi -- that's not a typo.
There are dozens of n54/s55 cars over 700whp on direct injection only -- there may be some in the 8's but I haven't fully done my research on the limits as port injection...
For the price of $55k or thereabouts, there are a ton of choices in the market currently and I'm having trouble justifying the new car price tag. Honestly, I think I might even prefer an auto for my next car, my last 3 have been manual. What other cars are in that price range 45-60?
GT-R or...
I would be so stoked to have the 4cyl version. I wish they'd bring it here but maybe they don't want it watering down the brand/image here in the states since we're horsepower-spoiled snobs and bench-racers.
Having driven and been in the Bimmers using the ZF and DCTs, you guys won't be disappointed by the ZF. It's like a DCT without all the notchiness in 1st->2nd, weird parking behaviors, or expensive ass clutch repairs/upgrades.
For power gains, I don't think we'll need to. The aftermarket turbo community has been doing "hybrid" turbos for some time. This retains the factory manifold but upgrades the internal CHRA/wheels for some serious flow improvements -- I'm talking 200+whp not some dinky 40whp gain all of this...
