Hill assist is not an optional feature. It’s pretty standard in all bmws. And the hesitation happened to me once while moving off up a slope. The car did not roll back an inch - but the rpm’s just bounced and car would not move forward.
theres no link on the software fix Toyota advised on. That was communicated to me by my dealer after I lodged my case and requested they escalate to HQ.
The bmw software fix was communicated by a Z4 owner who also filed a case with his dealer.
There is no official confirmation the software...
This is tricky to validate on my side, since I can’t 100% guess when the hesitation occurs. It hasn’t occured in the past 4 weeks for me. If I had switched off TC I may inaccurately attributed it to that.
Anyway, BMW already reported a software fix for the z4. I can only assume it’s the same fix...
I guess they are waiting for one of us to get into an accident before admitting it’s a fault? Or maybe they aren’t getting many official complaints.
I’ve given up waiting for them to do the right thing and warn all owners before the fix is out. Just gotta make sure to know your legal options...
zymol leather cleaner - works great on all interior surfaces.
followed up with leather master protection cream & leather vital
optimum protectant plus for the syn leather and plastic surfaces.
I wanted to see if it has the same behaviour in comfort plus, meaning it could just be the Toyota transmission mapping. I can’t remember if it behaves the same In sport mode.
I have the same observation in my supra. It isn’t so bad if you are fairly firm on the brakes, and most noticeable when you let off the gas and kinda coast to a stop and go light on the brakes. It’s only on the 3-2 downshift. I had the dealer check it at service and (of course) they said there...
I leave my CX plugged in, and it only triggers the alarm if you lock the car while BimmerCode or BimmerLink is still connected to the module. OBDLink app doesn’t trigger this because it automatically disconnects when you turn off the car.
the CX is good value if you are using it primarily for...
i noticed a noise that’s almost like a helicopter sound, happened twice - both after filling up the gas tank. Noise disappeared at the next start up. I have not filled the tank to the top since then, and the noise hasn't come back.
I suspect it’s Related to the tank ventilation valve, been...
I’m under the impression that the cooling system ramps up when it’s needed. With the nanny driving, the car in fact gets the oil up to temperature (which is good). And with more spirited driving, the cooling system kicks in to keep the temps in operating temperature.
I’ve been advised by a...
Unfortunately, I don’t have a case number. I’m also not based in the US, but let me try asking if the dealer is willing to release that detail to me.
Do you recall how full the gas tank was? Since you’re parked on a significant incline.
but I note @tjk mentioned similar incidents but without the steep incline.
Ive experienced hesitation despite a fully warmed up car , but never to the point of stalling. Did have a few long crank start ups, tho.
I have noticed that it’s so far always happened to me while moving off in first gear.
I guess one interim fix could be driving in (Z4) comfort+ mode till the “software fix”… if you can live with the crashy suspension setting.
this is why I find this problem so disturbing. When you are caught out, the instinct is to give it more gas. Cos you think oh, I must be going to light? And as you do, when the power resumes (typically on its own) you fly out.
if your car is cutting power while driving on an icy patch, I’d think that’s normal, no? DTC is usually advised anyway (subset of DSC, and is what you activate when you hit the TC button once) for those conditions. I’ve had to use DTC sometimes when driving over a slippery patch on car park ramps.
I can understand that. After being Guinea pig with my car!
It’s a bigger issue for me cos it was happening relatively frequently, and starting to be more random. Also three close calls losing 99% power yet creeping into the path of oncoming traffic, had me crapping my pants.
are most owners not reporting this to Toyota? It seems like Toyota is being very quiet about it, despite so many online reports. I see mostly the z4 owners reporting it instead.
wonder if your car already had some updated software that wasn’t in the 2020 models. That could have been included in the recall suite.
what did you observe as the car struggled upslope? I had it happen once moving off upslope, but I was moving from a standstill. So the hill assist seemed to...
Might be difficult for OP to go to a different dealer, if the first has already logged a warranty claim for the part.
From what I’ve experienced, I wouldn’t be surprised with inflexibility on Toyota’s side. Even if their own dealer messed something up. Maybe TMC USA handles customer service...
