Has anyone else observed harsh/jerky downshifting in their 3.0 Supra? I noticed it for 3 to 2, and can happen in normal or sport mode. But typically at low speeds like 13mph and below.
mine is a 2020 3.0 model, so it’s the lower power output engine variant.
What cargo mat are you using? Looks to fit the euro spec layout perfectly.
Mine is also a Euro spec, but I'm using the weathertech cargo which ends up with the left corner folded up against the net. I gotta see if I can reassemble this net with the cargo mat laid down.
Sure thing - here are some comparisons I’ve read

I can’t seem to find the document for 5w-30 oils, but it looked sponsored by Amsoil, so no prizes guessing what oil came up tops...
In terms of excessive blow-by, I take it NOACK is the key? Cos surprisingly, a number of 5w-30 oils seem to have NOACK ratings similar to 0W-20 oils. I'm going off some oil tech analysis found online, so will be very interesting to hear about your real world observations with the AOS etc.
I wouldn’t count on the partial drop markers to estimate exact consumption, since it can fluctuate on different measurement runs. I’d wait to see how long it takes before the car calls for a top up, and use that as your measure.
Since you just went for an oil change, it’s also possible that...
900 miles to a top up does sound excessive, even if using sport mode on the street and esp if car is mostly stock.
Hope your dealer can figure out what’s going on. I didnt realize you have an aftermarket exhaust, may not be much of a reference but my stock exhaust tips are definitely not...
That sounds very reasonable. You didn’t mention if you’re stock or tuned etc, also what your driving style is.
If you’re at least stock, your engine oil consumption sounds absolutely normal. If you’re not stock, think you’re doing better than normal!
Out of curiosity, what engine oil weight did you run in the M3? I recall they go pretty heavy, interesting to note you still observed some oil consumption.
Hope you can share your observations on the blow by. From what I read, the B58 has significant improvements versus the N54/54.
I think...
There is a theory that factory fill is specific and beneficial for the break-in, but never seen conclusive proof. But where I am, the official Toyota dealer advice is
1) a one-off oil change at 1000km (0W-20 Supra oil), then
2) every 12000km or 12 months whichever comes first.
Note that BMW...
The oil sensor may not be great at measuring the precise drop from max to min level, but it has so far worked fine in all my BMWs in flagging when a top up is required.
The indicator isn’t always accurate, in the sense that it can fluctuate before hitting the top up warning. Mine showed 1/2, then went back up to 3/4! I’d just monitor and check the oil level again.
Wouldn’t worry too much till you get the low oil warning.
based on some BMW forum discussions, could be as much as a quart left in the cooler. Assuming the oil filter is changed out too. Then 6.9 quarts of oil to fill up.
So the engine supposedly holds about 8 quarts of oil.
Update:
After adding 320km mileage, the onboard engine oil measurement is now showing only one notch (quarter) down from max. It somehow found 250ml of oil.
Guess that’s why BMW tells owners not to top up oil till it indicates to.
Is your oil measurement reading showing zero consumption since factory fill?
I honestly don’t know how much oil they poured, I’m sure factory fill is much more precise, and even with normal consumption, perhaps doesn’t even start to eat into the 1L top up threshold. I just wonder if the svc...
I only know it’s late 2019 production based on shipment arrival. So likely late Q3 or early Q4 2019. They don’t stamp production dates on our cars, and VIN lookup shows nothing except 2019 production.
