Holy.... I had the same reaction! :spaz:
If the new Supra can match the 997 in most performance metrics as well as its feel, it will be an absolute hit. The 997's steering feel and its Mezger engine are already the stuff of legends, and some say even better than the new 991 GT3.
With the...
The 2018 timing they have for the debut of the new Supra in this article is consistent with the other article saying that production of the Supra will be outsourced and start in 2018. Sounds like a solid reliable timeline might be shaping up, finally! :headbang:
Now that would make the new Supra even more special, a bespoke engine developed just for it. Rare to see in this age of shared engines among many models. Hope you're right!
I want to believe it. I think the mistake they made was making references to the Supra in those FT-1 videos then waiting 2+ years before the actual Supra concept. It made it feel like a long drawn out wait when in reality there hasn't even been a concept yet.
Agreed. But at least he's still talking about it. I was afraid it was already vaporware.
I've always thought they should make Gazoo or TRD their performance sub brand. Even Hyundai is getting into the performance/motorsport sub brand game with their "N Division" and Toyota definitely has much...
No matter how great the new Supra is (and I'm sure it'll be world class performer) the MK4 Supra will always be so special. Would be surprised if MKV Supra can be modified to the level and extent of the MK4. Just look at all those under hood goodies!!
Than this argument could be made that BMW has the FWD Mini platform for a Z1/Z2. They also have the 2 and 3/4 series to underpin a Z3/Z4 replacement. So who really knows what is in store.
This is great, Toyota seems intent to keep showing the concepts. I'd forgotten how sweet the tan interior + graphite exterior is. Hope we get a similar combination possible on the production car.
Why not show the FT-1 all the way up until the next concept to come out (whether it's called the FT-1 or Supra Concept). Keeps the car in people's minds at least until the next major bit of news or reveal.
Well no chance of a spy photo from there if it exists lol.
Once Toyota is ready for some more press coverage of the Supra MKV they'll trot out the prototypes for spy photographers to catch anyway.
