The 2018 timing they have for the debut of the new Supra in this article is consistent with the other article saying that production of the Supra will be outsourced and start in 2018. Sounds like a solid reliable timeline might be shaping up, finally! :headbang:

With the shows remaining I would think Toyota will just hold a separate event and have it at the future auto shows. The shows are really losing their luster nowadays.
The shows are losing a bit of lustre, but they still want the international media exposure. Otherwise they have to stage an event and fly in the media. For a sportscar, car week is a enthusiast-driven event with international media presence. Manufacturers go to a lot of expense and effort to put a car on the lawn. They could host some sort of launch event, we will know if they build a tent at Pebble.

I agree with @Craigy it very well might be shown at Pebble Beach. Toyota thought enough of the show to debut the gray FT-1 concept there. Might only be 3 months away but who knows how far along they are. The Supra Concept could be already done and they're just keeping very tight lipped for all we know.
They've definitely had enough time to put something together. It's been a year and a half since FT-1. If the Austrian manufacturer is under contract with BMW & Toyota, I'd imagine general specs on the platform have to be more or less set.

Well if there's any substance to all this, this time around, all I can say is they better hurry up, as I have already placed an order for the No. 1 best selling sports car, model year 2017 (hint: it comes with a porn star mustache as optional), not to mention the most track capable car for the money that can double duty as a daily driver.

So I may only have a month or less to cancel my order, assuming Toyota actually has something up their sleeves and they are actually committing to production for "next" year, not as in 2027!

Somehow I don't think a month or so is long enough....may be I'll trade in my mustache for a third year model Supra, after they sort out all the bugs!

GT350? Yea I dont see it happening anytime before 2019 so you're better off enjoying that ride for a few years. I would imagine a lot of the people initially interested when the FT1 came out have moved on to other cars. Luckily I'm in no hurry except death comes to us all so yea get on with it Toyota....

Porn stache = 370Z, possibly Camaro and, if it came with a gold chain, definitely Corvette. ;)

Gold chain and the works.... ;)

The new Grand Sport. A Z06 without the silly overheating supercharger! Probably one of the (flame suit on) most capable NA cars, outside of open wheel cars!

Lexus Poland has posted a behind the scenes video of the Calty Design Research Center. Something that caught my eye was a teased car labeled as "Top Seceret", this can be seen around the 3:55 minute mark. Towards the end of the video @7:05, Mr. Kevin Hunter (president of Toyota Motor Corporation's North American design studio, Calty Design Research) says "you're going to have to wait until next year for this one".

Same video, but this one was posted on Toyota's USA youtube. This one doesn't have the annoying subtitles. It shows published date as August 11, 2016.

Updated:

Comparison image done by Kiske. Wheelbase is different and it appears the car under the cover is slightly larger than the 86.

Nice catch! Proportions definitely look like the prototype we've seen.
Thanks, I was just bored and watching videos on youtube. Than I was "hello, what do we have here". It has to be it, there are just too many similarities between the concept, prototype, and teaser.

wow! amazing! it isn't like they covered a GT86
why would they cover up a 86 and put top secret on it?

a lot of sports car have this basic shape. but the main differences that i see are the shark fin. there is also more of a duck tail going on in the car under the cover. and lastly there is a bulge going on around the headlight area.

because all car companies are full of trolls to generate hype...come on man it is typical business...just look at the wheels in the first pic from the OP, it is ripped straight from the 86 wheels...

I don't think you've been around 86s enough...they have the definite headlight buldge, a nose sticking out and the trunk is naturally a duck tail shape..

the wheels could just be a place holder.

not much of a bulge IMO... there still in the differences in the shark fin antenna. i still think the duck tail is more apparent in the car under the covers.

look, to be for sure we are waiting for some photoshop experts to do some over lap comparisons.

a place holder...lol...so they would put the effort to cover the supposed Supra replacement and the best they could do was to put 86 wheels? What happened to the FT1 wheels?
