Okay, I may have to drive to the dealership in order to talk to one of the service advisors about the simple test you mentioned. I will also try to get a copy of the photo(s) the Supra tech took before documenting his diagnosis.
I have lots of advice for this dealership. If only someone will listen and take action. Now if I had Musk's money, I'd buy the dealership and "shake it up".
A track day will be fun after break-in miles reach 1200. The odometer is currently near 800.
Mark, yes, the dealership has one certified/trained Supra tech and one Supra service advisor. If you've ever seen the car care nut videos on youtube, there are a couple that this Toyota master tech has that are specifically about the MK5 Supra for which he is certified. I would trust that guy to...
Okay, so the tech or I must get the diff hot by driving the car in order for the fill plug removal test to reveal whether fluid is exiting the bleed hole when the plug is removed. I think I will visit the dealership if I don't get a call-back by the service advisor on Monday.
Phil, when I looked at the procedure, it didn't look that complicated. Does it require many years of differential repair experience to "get it right"? I've never done it, myself but then again, I'm not a mechanic.
Nonetheless, I will see if the tech can check the fill level. That should be...
Thanks for your input, Mark.
The way I see things is that I have the following options:
1. Let the Supra-specific ASE tech replace the input shaft seal. Verify that he has driven the car afterwards and checked for leaks.
2. Ignore the tech's analysis and photos, pull the car from the...
I am saying that to me, my 2024 does not have a buffeting issue at the speeds during which my windows are open (up to 45 mph or so). It's kinda like saying that I am okay with my Supra's interior having a sound level of 68 db with the windows closed. Some people might say that this car is too...
Bob, it looks like some engineer in your life was a pompous a** who thought he or she knew everything. I can assure you, that I am not like that person. I have learned from assemblers, technicians, HVAC techs, accountants, buyers, managers, QA techs, auto techs, and even janitors, to name just a...
If I am going fast enough, I'm already on the highway and it would make no sense to have the windows open at highway speeds. (which average 80 with little-to-no traffic)
The speed range at which I drive in the suburbs where there are houses that line the street is 40-45 mph. My MX5 handles wide...
Not exactly. ;) I'm the only one here who saw close-up photos of the almost definite origin of the leak. I'm certainly not always right, but in this case the Tech and I are likely to be.
But thanks for your well-wishes.
I designed gasket seals. Most of the o-ring grooves were created as per the Parker o-ring handbook. The o-rings were off-the-shelf but care had to be taken at times when chemical compatibility and hardness were vital to sealing effectivity. O-ring contact surface finishes are also important.
I think it's safe to say that the road surfaces have something to do with it. When I lived in CT, my cars would get vibrated relentlessly. It's not bad here in most locations but where there are small sections of neglected surfaces, I slow the car down quite a bit.
My odometer is approaching 800...
Notes:
1. This is a massive dealership that has had many Supras brought in for servicing.
2. There is a dedicated (Supra-trained) technician and service advisor.
3. The problem analysis document includes not only photos that show where the leakage is occurring, but also exploded service manual...
