  1. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

I'm thankful for the opposite - someone who knew exactly what to do and saved my butt...I had a moment at NJMP where I was passing a guy I knew reasonably well on the inside of 1. I threw the car into the turn with a bunch of trail braking, and I simply didn't have enough front grip to turn in...
  2. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

We have folks with a variety of "racing" backgrounds and experience on the thread. I put big air quotes around racing because that's what normies call everything we do. :D I started in the late 90s with auto-x, did my first HPDE in '02, competed in my first actual race (24 hrs of LeMons) in...
  3. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

Zeroing in on this line for an "Instructor teaching moment." As you progress through the groups, you should always be putting yourself in a place at least a little outside your comfort zone, as that's where the real learning happens. Doing things better, memorizing lines, etc...whatever you...
  4. trash site

I know a significant number of us are in the "Zip tie the wear sensors out of the way and forget about them" camp, myself included. The annoyance of getting them to fit track pads, replacing them when they get fried by heat, or actually get to the point where they...sense wear is just not worth...
  5. Cool me down to take another round

Sometimes, you'll see it notated with dashes. 17-42-8-666-819 If you do an eBay search on the p/n, be very careful, as they throw in a lot of part #s that do not match. When I was watching closely, there are plenty of resellers who are just selling new units for $1k or so. I found 2 used...
  6. Cool me down to take another round

Thx as always. I got tired of trying to find them used, so haven't been looking for a while, but I'll add that to my list models to search on.
  7. Vince's 2020 Daily Driven MK5 - 850WHP & 86K+ Miles

Not that you asked...but I'll make a recommendation against the KWs. If you are looking for a streetable coilover to make the car a little more sporting in the canyons, etc, I'd recommend the Ohlins R&T over the KWs. Check out the Ohlins thread on here - there's a mixture of street and track...
  8. trash site

If you've had success with that, excellent. Personally, I've had zero success with removing deposits/glaze by hand with sandpaper. There is a 3M product that attaches to a drill with an abrasive that's designed for this - I've yet to try it, but it's in my Amazon shopping cart right now...
  9. autocross suspension

Since you're here in the DMV with me...I wish I was plugged into the autox scene enough to make more recommendations on who to run with. I have no clue these days. I'm assuming DC Region SCCA is still the main group running events, but there used to be several more that ran good events...most...
  10. autocross suspension

OK, so no class in mind, and one season under your belt. Thank you. I'm mostly in agreement with Danny, with one exception. Tires. The OEM tires leave a lot to be desired, regardless of skill level. If you've done 7 events, you've put a hurting on the OEMs anyway. Run whatever the other...
  11. autocross suspension

Couple of questions: - What class (assuming SCCA classing)? - Is this your daily driver?
  12. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

We're on the same page here, for sure. It's definitely easier to drive around a little understeer with trail braking throttle modulation. I've had the good fortune to have tracked FWD, AWD, and RWD cars over the years. I'd had understeering dump trucks, I've had tail happy maniacs that try to...
  13. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

For discussion purposes, a counterpoint: This platform is fairly short wheelbase, fits a lot of tire, and has good power. That's usually a recipe for tail-happy, which the car can be. I would recommend F&R bars vs Front only. I did F & R sway bars at the same time, did the rear subframe...
  14. How many track days you did in 2024

For the Supra, 4 typical track days, and I'll add on 2 more for laps turned during OneLap for an estimate of 6. I don't really count LeMons race weekends because that's in my Mustang, but in a single race weekend, I turn more laps combined than I do in track days..

AJ makes very nice stuff, and the guy LIVES in the wind tunnel.
  16. Radar Detector - Mirrortap install does not auto-shut off after 7 minutes

This doesn't help you...but in the mirror tap install on my '22 Premium (I have the HUD), the detector definitely shuts off after 7-ish minutes. I used the guidance from here on which wires to tap on the connector, etc.

Since Hawks are generally tolerant of other pad compounds, you're likely gonna be fine. One of the old solutions for pad deposits on otherwise good rotors was to drive around on Hawk Blues for a few miles to clean your rotors, and then bed in whatever new pad you wanted. If you guys think...
  18. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

Treat the old pads the same as new ones. Just go through the bedding process to transfer the pad material to the new rotors as if you were running new rotors AND new pads.
  19. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

Ah...I did not know about this product...off to research. Thank you for sharing. I'm still probably going to err on the side of replacing rotors, but if I have another tool in my arsenal, it's a good thing. My LeMons foxbody Mustang drives me to learn, as we break a lot of stuff, and have...
  20. Race Tracking Your Supra - Information exchange

I pretty much do the same thing. I have access to enough back roads with minimal stops that I can do the cool down almost entirely without touching the brakes for 15-20 min. I did the 60-5 stops at least 20 times bedding in the RSL29s. It was night, so I couldn't see smoke, but I'm guessing...
