I understand how they can twist it to be "well that's how it works under the law", but it wouldn't be the first utterly stoooopid law.....
In this case it really does seem to be the dealer on the hook - if the car had a malfunction then sue the carmaker - if the owner did a mod that caused it...
OP your #4 appears to be the ones I have, I don't think mine had a brand name and they cost 50 or 60 bucks. Work perfect even at waaaaaay above 100 MPH :)

4800 miles and the car told me to add a quart. I am not real concerned because this is the first time, and the way I drive it I am surprised it wasn't sooner LOL. I know people with Audis who need to add multiple quarts in a lot less than 4800 miles and are told it's "within spec"...
