I don't think BMW's or Toyota's pricing structure has to do with anything here. Base prices increase on most if not all cars every year to account for inflation. If a manufacturer didn't increase the base price they would make less money every year as the lifespan progresses

The B58C in the 2020 Supra is a new engine as is the the B58D in the 2021 Supra. Same age, just different motors. Software won’t change your compression ration and head design.

Platform is very loosely defined, the underpinnings are the important part here. The underpinnings on the Supra/Z4 differ from those on the 5 Series, which also differ from those on the X7, but are all on the CLAR platform.
