Thats because these aren't dyno charts. They are marketing graphs to illustrate the power curve of the motor. They certainly use engine dynos to get the sample data for these charts, but what you are looking at is averaged discrete sample points plucked from their own dyno charts. And then...
Power, horse power in this case, is a measurement of work being done. Your torque curve, is your vehicles acceleration curve (till higher speeds where drag becomes a bigger factor). Ignore the HP figures and look at the torque curves to get an idea of how a car will accelerate. And that stock...
Agreed, it is reminiscent, I'm just saying there is no influence from the rx7 there. The mk5 rear shape is what you get when you take the 2000gts greenhouse and side profile and then slap the mk4s quarters and duck bill lip on the end of the hatch, then exaggerate everything.
The later GT4s...
Change the clutch in one, then get back to us on that lol.
Agreed about the most beautiful and rotary bit, but' its not the FD you are seeing in the mk5, it's the 2000gt with the mk4s haunches/quaters added to it.
But its more in tune with the 2000gt, which is really the grand father of the Supra. I don't mourn the lost rear seats, the loss of front double wishbone suspension and any semblance of Japanese DNA far more.
Agreed. Both cars have a 97.2 inch wheelbase. I'm sure this is another case where it was chosen because it was right for the Z4s design, and the supra just got stuck with it. Though they did say they set the hard points early in development and then went their separate ways so this could be one...
Z4. It has a couple big advantages. One, it doesn't have all of that vent BS on the door totally hampering the Supra, which leads to the second advantage. The Supra suffers massively from having too many jarring body seams visible from the side. Not only does the Z4 not have the baggage of being...
In Vancouver I found the one guy working the floor that actually knew something about it and was more then happy to talk to someone who wasn't a complete idiot or was just being super negative. Yakked with him for a good 10mins. Still couldn't get him to open it, they didn't even leave the keys...
Yup, the door vents are the single biggest aesthetic turn off for me too. Beyond the horrible clam shell hood fitment gaps, but I'm going to give them the benefit of doubt that that won't be an issue on the real production cars.
Way too many body lines on this car.
Yup, I was pretty shocked Toyota let those cars out the door looking like that. The one I saw at the autoshow last week looks exactly as above.
FYI, my pic in my first post is a screen capture of the image at the top. It looks much better then that /|\
Oh I would like to see some more photos of this car. Bad angle for checking, but the panel gaps already look more consistent here then on all of the preproduction cars we've seen so far. Saw the current grey one on the new car show circuit last week and the gaps around the stupid clam shell hood...
They definitely will not let you sit in it. I found the most senior dude working the booth there, chatted his ear off for 10 minutes, flashed my Supra shirt, imparted my history (20 Supras over 20 years) and he said they didn't even leave the keys with them, there was no way.
Well, I think my...
Finally, the Vancouver International New car show is here. Get to see this sucker tomorrow and make up my mind what I think about the styling. Really curious how bad the panel gap around that clam shell hood is in real life lol.
