Actually there was a lot of reporting in the years after the FRS that it was a bit of a sales flop. I didn't buy it though, people had nothing to compare it too. Sure it didn't make a dent compared to the sales of say the Corolla, but it was outselling the Miata of the time so couldn't be that...
Would it though? I would think feedback and reviews will influence it more as sales could actually be very weak because of the lack of manual. If they do some market research and find out that there is a huge percentage of buyers waiting for a manual version, they may be more likely to do it...
Well, no one has liked the sound of their 4. All of the reviews on the new Cayman/Boxster lament on the loss of the 6 (boxer) so not too surprising they would switch back, the extra competition may have pushed them over the edge though.
It could be they just didn't even know about it till the internet pointed it out lol. Doubt they have anyone working in marketing still who was there in the 80s.
We need to bring back the Toyota jump!
I'd say so! The marketing blitz is in full steam! I just got hit with this on Facebook but I can't find it on YouTube or anywhere else. Hate to post a FB link here but it's all I got right now...
We should just call this one, Toyota fights back at the Internet. Its captioned with...
"Toyota...
Yeah its decent. It doesn't look as good as I hoped in person, the design is a little awkward from some angles, but probably a little better then the iM, which was a huge step up too.
I like our 1zz, no complaints beyond the obvious piston drain hole debacle. I went out of my way to find a low...
First time the mk2 has ever been in 1/18th scale. These are resin btw, not diecast, but the detail and finish is awesome. You can get the mk2 in Red, Black, Blue or White now.
Also, some of you may want this...

Very cool.
The last get Celica and the MRS are both fantastic cars, and wicked quick on the autox course. The MRS in particular once you do the super simple and so obvious Toyota shoulda done it 2zz upgrade. Both have come into their own more so after they went out of production, but they were...
Pre-Ordered a Brand New Limited Edition Toyota Supra and it just arrived...
UGHH!! Automatic only???!!
lol
1/18th scale. Hilariously, it also shipped from Germany. You can get these here now btw...

In the process of finding out...
I liked the look of those and the size, but the RS was just a trim option, no actual performance improvements. The car had a twist beam rear axle and a sort of hopeless motor. There was the 1st gen Matrix XRS and Corolla XRS in that era too and they both had good motors that the base cars...
Sure there was. Why do you think Toyota decided to start Scion in the 2000s? Because the average age of their buyers was frighteningly high, not exactly a surprise when you kill off all of your sports cars and the most exciting thing in your lineup is the Echo RS hatchback (which the US didn't...
Great add! Yup, bit of a redo of the MR2 one, but at least they are only ripping off themselves. But OMG, could they have chosen a worse song? These needs to be rereleased with appropriate music lol.
The grass is always greener...
German cars are coveted a bit more in Japan and are considered exclusive compared to their domestic wares, the co-production might not hurt them as much overall there. Hard to say.
I was just reading about "The Lost Decade" in Japan. Wikipedia it. People who lived...
Son? Please, I've been into Supras since the mk4 first came out.
When I was talking about dumping billions, I was referring to the development money they put into the LFA in the 2000s, not the current venture. Your point is great and all, but you're still missing mine. The LFA lost money hand...
Well a giant duuuuuh to everything you just said, doesn't disprove my point at all. Where is the benefit today of the billions they dumped into that project? Where's the trickle down tech? Ohhh wow, we have cars with LCD gauges now, like that wouldn't have happened anyways, every single...
That Jalopnick article kinda glossed over the hardest part. That's a lot of assumptions right there about being able to write manual transmission code to the mk5 ecu from another ecu. I'm not sure this will ever work like a factory car with everything working the way you'd want. Also the cost...
Preach, absolutely. I still can't get over the fact that the same profit obsessed Toyota board who killed off every single Toyota sports car in the 2000s also greenlighted the LFA. What was the total cost on that one again? How much did they make (lose actually)? There's a project that benefited...
I wasn't implying do that. Same here, all the same stuff is legal as before but there is no process where you'd get in trouble if you had a swap, as long as you can pass a safety VI if you got one. I like air, run a cat.
