Back to the question, if I could choose between a new Toyota built Inline 6 or a Manual for the new Supra, Toyota I6 hands down. I am a manual lover for sure, but a missing transmission option is a solvable problem via the aftermarket. Not an easy problem to solve at all in this day and age if...
Yes, but there actually are Toyota parts in the BRZ, many of the most important ones too (diff, tranny, PS, injection system). The new Sup is all BMW. But wahh, enough threads like this. I can think of at least 3 different scenarios to co-develop this car in a way better then they did, but this...
....so, whats the third? I thought even the JDM 4cyl had the same autobox the rest of the world is getting. Maybe the 4cyl is getting a smaller, cheaper manual.
McWicked, it shows a lack of understanding about how this car was developed. You'd think a car news site would know how this venture went down and that the car is a BMW styled and partially tuned by some Toyota engineers (obviously, a good portion of the Supra dev team are BMW people). If they...
Just bite your tongue for the first part of this article. Yes Jalopnik, it has BMW logos and stickers everywhere because it IS a BMW, we know thanks. Pretend its Playboy, just look at the pics (lots of goodness that hasn't been seen up close here yet)...
No, the butterfly valve is to make the exhaust on the outside of the car louder and probably more efficient. It has nothing to do with the in car audio (though they probably turn that up when the valve is opened).
Some cars, oh you mean Toyotas. Yes thats what they do. This however is a BMW so we will likely get a digital sound track. I hope what we are hearing in the launch videos is actually the car though cause that sounds good.
A quick visual look over doesn't tell you how well it flows. I'm guessing the inside of that rear mounted 2 in 2 out muffler is a bit of a mess. Not a huge fan of divided exhaust paths on inline motors either. Also looked like all the piping was aluminized mild steel in the under car pics we saw...
Well the ones that cheat do anyways.
Also the 5hp difference between the 340hp version of this motor in other cars could just be due to the exhaust design on the new Supra.
hmmm maybe the 2jz won't be the first mod done to these when they roll out in September. Finding that fuse and pulling it should be mod 1 lol.
Sigh, I know, its the 21st century. Its likely a software change, hopefully there is an option in the entertainment center to kill it with fire.
While what he said may be true, the main reason is obviously budget. If they weren't willing to pay to develop a new car on their own they certainly weren't going to pay for an all new motor. Toyota seems pretty set on sticking with v6s (and v8s) still so not likely they would have an inline and...

Also whats up with the Euro car and all of the claimed 0-60 numbers? Our 3400lb porker apparently does 4.1 0-60 with 335hp. The Euro version, which is likely lighter then ours, has 340hp (wasn't it...
Supra too...

"Toyota helpfully provides the engine code, B58B30M1, which is the same as the Z4 M40i. Same for the ZF 8HP51 transmission, and the whole suspension hardware and the platform. Pretty...
"...to get to that 50:50 split that was really important from a handling and balance standpoint. As well as in the choice of the materials for the suspension. So the front is all aluminum, for light weight, and the rear actually has more steel in it to balance out the mass throughout the car."...
Yup, but the question is, did Toyota's practices and standards actually have any lasting impact on how BMW builds cars? Remember the interviews about development Tada san gave. The Germans scoffed at them when they took parts back to Japan and put them through the wringer and asked for changes...
Ha, yeah me too. My pre official release opinion of the car has flipped regarding interior vs exterior aesthetics. Before I thought they were on the right track with the exterior and it was going to look awesome with the camo off, but I was not enthused about the interior from what we'd seen of...
You guys are really assuming a lot that Toyota had any sway whatsoever over that motor. It was predeveloped on other platforms and is shared across at least 4 models. I'm guessing all that stress testing and feedback all had to do with parts bespoke to the Supra\Z4 platform, and all the parts...
