Or they needed more time to properly calibrate the steering, electronic diff, other software-configurable suspension bits, etc... for the brace changes.
I mean, they didn’t even have time to make all of the service bay tools work...
Exactly exactly exactly. Let’s not pretend that the jump this “year” (heavy quotations on year since 2020 MY was super short and we’re barely into 2020) is even close to normal. This jump is unheard of for a car that has been on the streets for what - 7 months??
Consider this.
If code alone could make the car meaningfully better, then why add different hardware?
Unless Toyota was sooo rushed getting this thing to market that they really have seriously suboptimal code (certainly possible and wouldn’t rule it out), then I think the notion of code alone...
Yeah, except you kinda have to soften that response since no one expects it after half a calendar year, and a model year of less than a calendar year. I think that’s way too soon even by the standards of the fasted moving technology.
Again, we’re assuming these code changes magically unlock some new capabilities or higher level of performance. I say it’s far more likely that the code changes are only compensation for the new hardware.
Will the new code+new hardware be better? Probably ever so slightly, but I wouldn’t...
After reading that I suspect the marketing department (and possibly we owners) may be making too much out of these programming changes. As you point out, there are hardware changes. Naturally, the systems that dial in adjustments all need to be tuned to work together to deliver the total driving...
Which part, the steering correction or the whole system? Using the button only turns off the system until the next start when the car will turn it back on.
When you customize and turn off the steering correction only, it stays off.
From the manual...
Yeah, I consulted with a lemon lawyer who had agreed to accept my case. He indicated the clock would reset to zero and the process would take 90 days.
A few days later, Toyota sent me my letter notifying me that they’d be buying back my car so I didn’t pursue the lawyer route.
At this point...
I don’t know. The YouTube analysis I’ve watched says the 2020 makes power and torque at lower RPMs so it may feel more responsive.
They also said the changes to the suspension are supposed to make the performance more accessible but has the potential to upset the successful balance that was...
Also, no one has mentioned that you aren’t supposed to ride 1st in traffic in a DSG. So if you drive in a lot of stop and go, the auto is going to be more practical.
I’m sure that’s some of it. It’s also due to the extensive use of electric accessories in BMWs (water pump, AC compressor, etc...), and also the large number of computer systems.
