Probably one of the best stock MKIVs I've driven mechanically ironically enough haha. Almost everything underneath had been replaced very recently. New OE brakes, suspension, bushings, motor was fully gone over too. The car is getting a full restoration done, just isn't going into the body shop...
Yeah, I have a 2013 and the stock limiter is 91mph, 4k rpm in 6th gear. Mine is tuned out though. I do a ton of cross country driving in 86s so I'm real familiar with the cruise control lol.
I didn't check the limiter on the Supras cruise. I was cruising at 80 tho. The 86 is limited at 4000rpm fwiw, so it's rpm based not speed. Don't know if the Supra has anything of the sort. Same system as BMW though, so you can check BMW cars maybe?
No power in the glovebox, I looked. Just the...
If I was sure the manual was coming in 1-2 years, I'd probably wait. But being not sure and also with the potential for it to be 3+ years maybe, the ZF will do just fine.
I'm glad you bring that up because I think that's one of the Miata's issues! The Bridgestones are too sticky for that car and it really exacerbates how underdamped the Miatas are from the factory. That much mechanical grip is wholly unnecessary for the car in its stock form and only makes the...
Less mechanical grip means limits are approached at lower speeds, aka it's easier for beginners, simple as that.
And in regards to balance, an 86 with 350whp on a 275 sticky square setup and plenty of weight removed can still be balanced. Way more power, way more mechanical grip, a far cry from...
The 86 is definitely more playful, easier to drive, much lower limits, and clearly less capable. But they both share really sublime chassis balance, both are easy to read and very predictable at the limit. The Supra is clearly in a different league with the power it has, but the 86 definitely...
@SupraFiend funny you mention WRC and their tuning strategies because Tada-San told me word for word, "We took some strategies from our WRC team when tuning this car on regards to making torque quickly. We worked within our parameters like how the WRC team works with restrictors. The end result...
Yeah we asked, Tada-San said something about the base car is more street oriented, something something something...
It's simply cost cutting, there's no other explanation. They wanted to get this car under 50k, I'm guessing a smaller rotor was one of the things they could easily skimp on to...
The rack speed is fine imo. I do wish it was faster but once you get off center it loads up fine and the nose moves quick enough. I never found myself crossed up on track at Summit and that's a pretty tight track. If you're an autocrosser it might be a little annoying, but overall I'm okay with it.
