Yes! That's why the Supra will come after the BMW! Toyota employees will rush to BMW dealerships and buy up all the Z4s and hastily drive them back to the Toyota dealerships, slap a hardtop on it, put it in reverse to roll back the mileage, and then sell them as new.
Genius plan, really...
I just want to mention something random. When we mention cost/development sharing between Toyota and BMW, many people think it's like this:
Project projected to cost: $10, BMW gives $5, Toyota gives $5.
When in reality it's like this:
Project projected to cost: $10, Toyota and BMW come...
If I recall correctly, the event is in Spain around the end of September, so they are likely either in storage in Germany rn, or being trucked to Spain. We won't know more til September.
If I were to guess, the video creator just put in the first power figure he saw on the interwebs when none of the Toyota/GR people would give him a number. I wouldn't put too much stock in it.
I should also note: I have no idea who Alain Dujardin is or what his position at GR is. I wrote "boss", but didn't mean it as the head of GR or anything like that, just the guy who happened to be representing GR at Goodwood. Could have been a PR guy for all I know.
I think the translation (which is pulled from a full transcript of the video), has the narrator of the video claiming the 450hp, not the GR boss. So he may have just been guessing.
Hey @Mike Myers, care to help with a little translation? What I got was, "GT86 was the first experience we had in the sports car segment, and that was fine for the first go, but this is much more than that. Pure sports car, good handling." And then the GR gentleman said it'll be hitting dealers...
Of course, I don't want people to be led on by the information we are given and pass on to the forums. We speak to a handful of people on this project, among hundreds and hundreds that work on and ultimately shape what this car becomes. Now, through the many years that myself and many others...
Just to elaborate on this further, it wasn't just an iron version of the B58. It was a significantly different motor that also happened to be iron (specifically CGI from what I was told). Weight penalty was supposedly minimal, but block strength and harmonic damping were much higher. The head...
Yeah, I definitely understand the business case for the hotter version later. I guess maybe I felt as though the "new motor" should have been the base version, and any hotter versions should have been built on top of that. Perhaps that was wishful thinking on my part.
And as far as the racing...
Just to level with you guys, I have no idea what motor is going to be in the production car at launch. But I do know, without a doubt, that there is a different motor, made of some type of iron, with a redesigned head, that has made big power, and that has been in development for some time. I...
Yeah, a dry sump would allow the engine to sit perhaps 2-4" lower, maybe more depending on the pan shape. The B58 has a fairly large pan with a rear sump, but of course a dry sump system has a pan as well, just smaller. FWIW, the LFA uses a V10 and has a 17.7" CoG, lower than the 86 by 0.4"; of...
Anyone have an OBD1 TT6 MKIV and wants a G-Force ECU for it? Found one in the garage from an old build, def never gonna use it. I also have a 7675 Billet DBB turbo if anyone is interested. Need to clean out the garage and get some cash to throw at my Mini Cooper lol.
