I know for a fact that this occurred. BMW was legitimately struggling to keep up with the Toyota team, Tada-San offered considerable help to them in order to do a lot of fine-tuning.

You looking to buy an MKIV? I think a few of us have cars for sale. I'm brokering a 97 TT 6-spd if you're interested. Haven't listed it as I'm still preparing it but PM me if you are looking for one.
This picture gives good scale showing how similar in size they actually are.
Also, didn't we have pics from like 3-4+ years ago of Toyota testing an A80 at the 'Ring? I remember getting very excited about that.
Without leading us further off topic, I just want to mention: I have done an IMS bearing repair on a 987 Cayman, and it was such a massive pain in the ass. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.
Is it saying that Toyota/Tada-San actually said that or is it simply speculating that they would? My buddy didn't get into the specifics when he translated it for me.
The shifter knob changes from generation to generation and is slightly different in different cars (for example, the one in the Alfa Romeos has the "unlock" button on the back of the knob), but yes that is the general layout of them. Expect something similar in the Supra.
