Good to know. Guess I'll cross that path in another 6 years if I still have the car. Worst case, I register it to my AZ address to avoid smog like you.
Well I mean as long as the actual check engine light isnt on and you can get all the readiness monitors to set, it shouldnt matter.
But at the same time, if you were to drive around on the stock ECU for say 100 miles and then plug the clone back in, do you think it would pop up the same error...
What I haven't checked yet is if I can get someone to program a factory locked ecu to a specific vin # for less than $300 (difference for the clone process). If you could do that, then you would go through the basic, send one ecu in process, for less.
You guys could always buy a later model locked ecu for cheap and have it cloned to your factory ecu. Will be a couple hundred more but a lot less worries when it comes to the dealership and smog.
True but this bm3 update is going to work fine for the other 90% of people. Ecutek will remain king of tuning programs but again, 90% of people don't need all its options. Honestly I think most people are like me and just wanted the basic flex fuel option.
Technically you can if there is enough material left. But there is really no way to see how much material is left so ya. I would rather not take a chance at something like that.
