These lap timer apps don’t depend on cell service. They use GPS.
Smarty cam, imho, is overpriced outdated resolution. I think they just finally went to 1080p and the quality still looks bad compared to a $300 GoPro.
I used the Dual XGPS 160 with Harrys like a decade ago and it made a substantial difference with resolution.
Left is iphone built in GPS and right is the 160. Very noticeable difference in resolution. This was in 2015, so whatever model iphone was out at the time.

Garmin is insanely overpriced although it just works and the ability to see...
I grew up in Orange County. I will admit, SoCal is a little harder but doable. I was in the Bay Area for the last twenty years. Last car before I moved out of state was a 600whp Evo 10. Had zero issues. I use my smartz while driving and also how I built the cars. Extra effort for stealth mods is...
I ran catless and no front plate on my cars for 20+ years in California. People that say you can’t do it have zero experience and can’t even spell California correctly.
Just takes some smarts, and as we can see from some replies here, not everyone has that…
I’m pretty much a broken record at this point but if you liked ST43’s, you should try the Project Mu Club Racers. Pretty much the same performance and way less noise.
I’m missing the fun but I try to avoid dyno threads as for some reason people always ask for advice, get advice, take it personally, then challenge said advice.
Every time, without fail.
