If you want some tire suggestions - these are my personal top 4 picks. The two on the left are summer tires and the two on the right are all-seasons. I've ran all 4 of these and have nothing but good things to say about them.
For you living in a year round hot state like Florida, the summer...
Mix and matching front/rear is A-OK I've done it a million times in a million scenarios in a million different (2WD) cars.
The real question: What kind of scenarios will you be driving the car in? Street? Track? What kind of climate? Road conditions? Etc.
Personally, I recommend a really good...
I'm 5'6", 135lbs, and yeah the Supra even for my tiny ass is difficult to get in and out of - at least initially until you learn the dance you need to do. Just another reason to add 5-7" of wheelbase to the mark VI Toyota ;)
I really like the look of the heritage/MKIV style wings. Seibon, LG, etc. But curious if they provide any actual downforce benefits? I did some searching and couldn't come up with an answer although I suspect it is zero to minimal. If anything the added weight to the rear might add some benefits...
Are you on stock clutch currently? If you are, I'm honestly very surprised as it seems a lot of guys are slipping the stock clutch with with even lower power levels than you.
Wife got me the power flex red inserts for Xmas. Looking at the Verus engineering install video it seems like a pita. Does anyone beg to differ? Seems like a few of you say you can just jack the engine up a bunch and yank both mounts out that way? Does downpipe have to be removed? Any gotchas...
Did this today.
Took ionno 1.5 hours including jacking the car up and bleeding?
When I unhooked the line to the slave cylinder I lost maybe 1 or 2 drops total, that's it. Probably because I double clamped the soft line lol
To bleed I did it the old fashioned way with my wife pumping the...
Thanks for posting that, was fun to watch and makes me excited about the future mods I'll be doing to the car.
On this subject - for the first time since owning the car I took an aggressive drive with the traction control enabled. And honestly it does a fantastic job at masking the instability...
You make some good points, especially about slapping their entire rear end replacement suite in to fix a problem that most people say is solved with a few bushings and a couple of arms.
I can say confidently however that my 2023 MT behaves exactly how they described their 2020 before throwing...
Largely centered around rear end stability, wheel hop, rear bump steer, things of that nature. Not that this can't be corrected with aftermarket parts and a solid alignment - but yes it's wild the car is this unstable from factory. I also suspect the manuals have these issues worse than the...
BMW power/drive train combined with a Toyota chassis with a longer wheelbase: woulda made this the greatest sports car of all time. Instead we got a Z4 with a Supra body that has so many terrible handling characteristics it drives me insane.
Ok, I was wrong the car is not supposed to be a GT like the 4 generations before it. You win. Congrats.
It still needs a longer wheel base. The wheel base it has now is more fitting for a vehicle 300lbs+ lighter (like the Caymen). I suspect the next gen will infact get this longer wheel base...
Regardless - it needs a longer wheelbase, OR lose 600lbs (which we all know it won't). I'd say anything longer than 100" would be a vast improvement in it's handling characteristics.
I just really, really hope the next gen Supra has a longer wheelbase. The current 97.2" wheelbase on a car that is supposed to be a GT car is absolutely retarded. Now it doesn't need to be 107" like a Mustang, but having it AT LEAST be longer than a GR86 (101.4") would be a start.
Will it heat soak? Probably... could always try to mitigate it with gold reflective type type on the plastic pieces and/or an aftermarket cold air duct like the Verus Engineering product.
Looks great though, definitely curious how it sounds.
Old Calaveras road has a couple good corners I taught myself to drift on back in my youth. Metcalf also has some great corners to slide where you might be able to find groups of people sliding at 3am on a weekend. It's been a while since I lived in CA though things might have changed.
