If they're going to be replaced for "free" anyways, why wouldn't you just buy the better ones out of the gate? Just thinking out loud again, and I'm very curious as to the weight difference between them. I know extra unsprung mass makes an exponential difference in the behavior of the steering...
We could be talking about the MY2020 vs MY2021-2023, which have undergone significant hardware & software changes... That's what I'd consider Gen1 & Gen2 variants..
No, but I'm totally confident in it being the kit OP needs. I did some digging on this earlier today, and also concluded that BMW/Toyota doesn't sell the slide pins a la carte, and this was one of two compatible kits I came up with while doing reverse BMW cross-referencing.
It'll fit without rubbing, but the ballooned sidewalls, especially on the 305 rears, are going to make the car very squirmy in bumpy corners and during highway pulls. Proceed at your own risk.
It's supposed to strengthen the glass surface as well, as it has a hardener built in. I dunno, I don't have a dog in this fight, just throwing the suggestion out there :dunno:

The spot-weld is for ease of assembly on the line. Just because something left the factory a certain way doesn't mean the replacement parts will be packaged the same. I mean, look at our exhaust as a whole. It comes OE as a single, welded assembly, but the replacement system is split into two...
