Yeah, I donāt see the point of a USD 90k MR2. Such a car has no similarity to former MR2s. The Supra was always the Toyota halo sports car, with the MR2 below it as a less powerful but more affordable car.
Agreed!
Yeah, I cannot see Toyota releasing an MR2 that canāt pass modern safety...
I would love a new MR2, but I think it is doubtful. I donāt see a viable business case for it.
Why assume it wonāt be FWD, with AWD for the top trim? That is feasible as well given the last Celicas were FWD platforms with AWD added on as needed. The dedicated RWD Celicas ended in the 1980s...
This actually makes some sense IMO. If Toyota are to offer sports cars beyond about 2030, they need to start developing hydrogen or EV ones, since gasoline powered ICEs will probably have been regulated out of existence by then. Makes sense to dust off the currently unused but still widely...
Yep, 370Z is dead, long live (new) Fairlady Z. ;)
I know lots of people love to rag on the 370Zās long production run, but that means there is plenty on the 2nd hand market, plenty of spare parts available, plenty of aftermarket support, and not many surprises - all the main reliability issues...
F Type is a gorgeous looking car (better looking than Supra IMO), but it is not a true sports car, it is more of a luxury GT (grand touring) coupe. It's heavier and not really as quick as a result because of power-to-weight vs the Supra. The Supra would be the more logical track car IMO. As a...
Nah. When I bought my last car (Z) I knew I wanted a low, 2 passenger door, RWD coupe. That meant taller, 4 passenger door, FWD/AWD hot hatches were never in the running. Nothing wrong with them, they are very capable and fast cars, but just not what I want personally.
Maybe. It's hard to say really, since there are always certain buyers attracted and repelled from a car for various reasons. When we think about what impact not using BMW might have had on the sales of the new Supra we are indulging in a counter-factual hypothetical alternate reality. Maybe it...
When I see these kids āselling my Supraā after barely a year or less of ownership, I just shake my head. āThe car just isnāt what I wanted,ā well why did you buy it? Did you not research it at all?
I suppose youth is the time to flip cars rapidly and make bad financial decisions. :D I think...
Whilst I am sure some vocal fanboys would be outraged online if the A90 had gotten a twin turbo Toyota V6, I suspect actual buyers with the money to drop would be looking at the numbers, and if the numbers were good enough (say 420HP stock, up from 416 in Lexus use), they would soon accept the...
LOL, I sometimes forget that in the USA they let children drive themselves to school. Itās funny, they let immature teenagers drive powerful sports cars unsupervised but make them wait a few more years before they can vote or drink booze. Kinda weird, since I would argue driving a car, let alone...
Because we like sports cars? ;)
I joined up because I was following the Supraās development for years, and I was hoping to upgrade to one when it came time to move on from my 86. Unfortunately, the eventual launch price in my country (AU$100k) was more than I was willing to drop on a sports...
Realistically, is there any passion for the next gen BRZ in a Subaru engineering team? When it comes to performance Subaru is all about practical turbo AWD vehicles, not RWD NA ones. This whole gen II development so far has the feeling of Subaru getting their arm twisted by big brother Toyota to...
Is it confirmed Australia still doesnāt get the 4 cylinder? Odd that they are releasing it in the USA now, but not here. They need something between the price of an 86 and 3.0 Supra.
Disappointed to hear Toyota are not playing as active a role in the mkII as the mkI, but still, if they keep the fundamentals from the mkI and just make it slightly quicker, nicer inside, and keep it affordable, it should still be a great car. I mean, is there a risk the Subaru team will screw...
I love the idea of the GR Yaris and canāt wait to see one. But Iāll be honest, I don't think the 1.6L 3 cylinder belongs in a GR Corolla or C-HR. Those cars are considerably larger and heavier. The new baseline for a Corolla sized hot hatch is a 2L turbo putting out at least 280HP. I think...
Bear in mind, the new 86 could still be 3+ years away... just remember how long the Supra took. If the next gen 86 comes out approximately 10 years after gen I, then it isn't due until 2022 or so at the earliest. In such a situation, I can well imagine Toyobaru putting out a final swansong...
Or testing a final special edition of the 370Z?
The Z35 being resurrected would be great if true, but Iāll believe it when I see it officially announced by Nissan. They have too much form in getting hopes up, then letting enthusiasts down. Remember the IDx debacle.
Bloody awful. To each their own, but what a way to ruin a new car. I donāt think wide body kits suit this car, all it really needs is a drop to eliminate wheel gap, some camber and nice wheels IMO. But then I feel the same about all the 86s around with Rocket bunny kits. A bit OTT for me.
I get that Toyota need to leave space between the 4 pot Supra and the next 86... Makes me wish they had kept the Supra B58 only, then there would be more room for a turbo 86 with 250-260 HP.
Unfortunately, I am not sure a 220HP gen 2 86 makes a compelling case for an upgrade to current owners...
