Hey everyone!
Good to be on this forum, with a lot of knowledgeable people and supra enthusiasts. The advice you guys share is much appreciated and really helps for people like myself who are quite new to the scene.

I am really keen on buying an auto supra (located in Aus).

There’s only 19 auto supras on carsales in the whole country from 2020 up.

A 2020 supra GT came up which is a pretty good deal compared to the rest of the market - stock, Toyota certified preowned, only 24000km and listed up for about 70.4K.

Ideally I was hoping to own the car to daily and sell in like 5 years, not track or go too crazy on mods (mostly cosmetic).

Ideally I was looking at buying around 2022 year for pricing reasons. There’s a 2023 GTS with 17000km for about 84k to give some idea of the market.

What would everyone recommend? Should I get the 2020, use the saved money for upgrades? Or should I just be patient, see what else comes out, get a newer one for more but at least it’ll be newer when I sell it / potentially more reliable since it’s a newer car?

stuck in two minds, any help would be much appreciated!

I’m buying the car outright, so reliability and resale value are big to me - don’t want it to be a money pit essentially

Good luck Lmar! My rule-of-thumb for buying a used car is to always buy the best car that you can afford. That means age, mileage and of course, condition. It's tough with these Supras, because there just aren't that many available.

I think mileage is more important than age (within reason). Once these cars are no longer produced, and the older they get, the less it will matter if it's 8 years old or 10 years old. What will affect the price the most will be does it have 30km or 130km on it?

That's my opinion. My opinion is worth about twice what you paid for it. ;)

Do us all a favor and buy the Prius GTS edition.
Ah There’s always some old man who is proud of finally being able to afford a supra and makes it his whole personality

remember when you get the car, 5w40
Edit: Although I've learned something today. The Aussies use GT and GTS for naming the trims, werid

You said you value reliability, daily driving, and not making it a money pit.
But your other personality suggests buying older car to save the money for mods.

I think you should use the extra money for a psychologist and see if Curly, Moe, and Jack can agree on something lol

me personally, I hate the idea of buying a used, previously beat on, partially disassembled sports car (meaning did the PO do a bunch of janky mods).
If youre never going to do serious mods like turbo, fuel system, trans, id just look for the lowest newest stock Supra out there. Depending on where it’s been parked and driven age can mean more than mileage. I briefly looked at used autos but the prices are so close to new I said fuck it better to have an un-bastardized new car.

but I feel like this isn’t the right car for a daily driver that you keep stock.
Sounds like you need to do some soul searching as nobody here is gonna make the right decision for you lol

I'm in my early 30s and feel old AF, Most of the veterans on here that will help you out with your future stupid questions would be considered in your eyes "old men". Nice way to introduce yourself to the forums, and welcome to the internet!

Dude, i use 10w60 for dildo lube? Feels waaaay better.
I’m 40 now and need the thicker oil otherwise I get sore quickly. Old age sucks.

and what the hell is a GT and GTS is that the Aussie version of 3.0 base vs 3.0 premium

nah, 40-50 is not old at all. rather be 50 than a stupid 18 year old at those street takeovers.
