Never gotten wheels before and I’ve been wanting a set of Apex VS-5RS, but since I’m in BS (stock) class for autocross, I can’t change the wheel width so was considering getting them in 19x9 and 19x10.

Do you think I might regret this later down the road instead of going with something like 19x9.5 and 19x11? Also would selling the wheels later on in this size be difficult?

Thanks!

Why wouldn't you just run stock wheels if you're limited by size? OEM wheels are forged. Going to an 18' square setup is much better in the long run.

OEM wheels on the 20-22 are fairly heavy compared to the newer 23+ wheels so he would see a fairly good drop in weight at the wheel if he swapped over.

OP could do what I was trying to do for awhile and see if anyone is selling their stock 23+ wheels can usually get them very cheap and they are hardly heavier than the Apex wheels you referenced. I personally just got a set of the larger wheels and I'm going to run my stock ones until I see a deal going on from someone or find another cheaper pair of wheels to run for autocross myself. I'd buy the wheels in whatever size you'd be most happy with and deal with the mods until you get another set or try to get another set of tires for the larger wheels if possible

Doesn't make much sense to me.

I would keep the stock wheels

I do have the 2021 wheels so it is slightly heavier. 2023+ wheels would be great. I’ll only have one set of wheels so wanted a balance of looks and performance. Can’t do squared if I want to stay in BS class. Asides from cost and tire options, what performance benefits are there to squared 18s on our car?

Preciate the advice! I’ll keep a lookout for the 2023+ wheels

I'd have to look it up myself, however, as long as the wheels weren't any bigger than stock sizes I believe you can run 18s but you'd have to keep the same widths as the stock wheels which wouldn't make it worth it IMO. People do go 18s squared for track use to maximize tire life.

Side note, I would upgrade the front sway bar

thanks for clarifying. I’ve been hesitant to put on a front sway bar since on my last car it definitely reduced body roll but didn’t seem to really improve time. Not sure if skill issue or the performance improvement is minimal

I didn't do a whole lot of driving spirited or any type of autocross with my car before I got mine so I can't 100% say I noticed a difference, however, a buddy of mine and lots of others have mentioned how much of an improvement it felt to have the sway bar changed out. I did an eibach and I run it on the middle setting which is still exponentially stiffer than oem

18s are usually lighter. Also you are really limited for 200tw tire options in the stock sizes. On tire rack the only options that are currently available for for 255/35/19 & 275/35/19 are A052 & AD09. Also having the ability to rotate your tires is huge for longevity.

But since you're class limited 23' wheels aren't a bad idea. I've considered buying a set for myself for funsies.

Yeah I noticed that on tire rack when looking for 200TW options. Thanks for the advice

May have a solution for you in regards to finding a set of wheels, currently looking for someone to test a set of our forged track wheel line we are about to launch, and would be open to making a set in oem sizes for you, + you'd be able to design the wheel itself to an extent.

Shoot me a message if interested.
