Test driving (and intending to drive away in a white A90 on Friday so just doing my research.

I'm an Android user and mainly use it in the car to listen to podcasts etc. I understand the Supra only supports Apple Car play. What do people do to get their Android phones to work wit the Supra infotainment? Will I really have to get an iPhone next? :)

if you are just looking for sound it works on a bluetooth connection, I'm using spotify in the car and it works (usually), the song title shows up on the display and I can even skip to next/previous song form the toggle switch on the wheel

The only thing i miss is being able to control spotify from voice commands via the car, other than that the stock system imo is good, i bet there's a way i could work it out by using hey google or alexa app via phone rather than the mic button i've not done much research on that front, other than that i was contemplating the MMI interface boxes but i wanted to see how i got on first before purchasing.

I was going to go down this route for Hey Google as once the phone connects to the cars' Bluetooth it can automatically switch to a driving mode which is nifty, and lets you control maps, Spotify etc etc verbay. I've been an Android Auto user for a long time.

Ultimately my reason for not doing so was that I thought most phone holders were obtrussive and looked a bit naff, plus the iDrive system gets me where I need to go and is easy to understand, especially with the HUD and auto-zooming maps.

Bluetooth Audio isn't great but it's also not awful, and I can live with just putting playlists on Spotify when I start the car.

Ultimately, not having Android Auto is nowhere near as big a loss as I was worried it would be.

I do miss it from having it on my other cars, but as it's not my daily it wasn't a deal breaker.
I just use the builtin Satnav and have copied some music over as FLACs via the USB to play.

I'm an Android user too, and do wish we had it in the car.

The only time I've used it was last year in a 318i courtesy car I had for a week and I really liked using it.

You can buy a hardware/software solution to have it in the car, but it's quite pricey and doesn't work via the touch screen - just the iDrive toggle and switches.

I don't mind the Bluetooth connection in the car - that's what I use all the time. It does sometimes drop out, meaning I have to usually reboot my phone to get it to connect again. And for me, it won't show album artwork on the iDrive screen. I use Spotify playlists.

I also generally use Waze on my phone when I need to use maps to navigate. I don't mind the iDrive navigation - but Waze gives you speed traps etc too - which is nice.
