AMS Performance has cut their teeth on some of the fastest JDM and European cars (Evo’s, GT-R’s, R8’s, Q60’s, etc.) this planet has ever seen—their renowned Alpha program is tantamount with truly ultimate performance and, crucially, reliability. Indeed, with some cars flirting with or exceeding the four-figure horsepower mark, speed is just as important as repeatability.
Today, AMS Performance has elected to put their extensive expertise behind developing a comprehensive A90 Supra program, so much so that they’ve purchase two MKV’s—one as an all-out halo car, and the other to bear their street-suited catalog.
The first of many exciting upgrades from AMS is their mandrel bent 304 stainless steel downpipe.
OEM Downpipe vs AMS Downpipe
The AMS unit does away with the restrictive OE primary catalytic converter. In its place is a 4.5” open chamber that maximizes exhaust flow. The long gradual transitions within the mandrel bent pipe section allows exhaust gasses to maintain velocity without a buildup of back pressure inside of the system. As a result, power comes in earlier and turbo spool-up is significantly improved.
The 4.5” post-turbo section reduces gradually—3.5” at the flex section and 3.15” at the outlet—which allows you to run a stock or aftermarket catback exhaust without issue. As you’d expect from AMS, this downpipe is a fully bolt-on solution with O2 sensors in OEM locations.
At first start-up, we were pleasantly surprised by how much the AMS downpipe had transformed the tame OE exhaust note. As the revs climb in Sport mode, the exhaust takes on a throater, more eager tone and you’re greeted by a concerto of pops and burbles as it settles back to idle.
On top of all of this, the increased exhaust flow makes for higher horsepower potential with future mods and you’re able to shave a valuable 3.6lbs from the OE downpipe. As part of our first sweep of mods, we’re incredibly impressed by what AMS has created out of the box.

About AMS’s Engineering Process: AMS is first and foremost an engineering company. The AMS Engineering team utilized Solidworks (3D software) to blueprint the inlet and outlets to optimize exhaust flow. The Red Alpha Full Downpipes feature heavy gauge stainless steel to retain as much heat in the down pipe as possible. Our Engineers 3D printed the downpipes to ensure an OEM level of fitment. Our threaded O2 sensor bungs allow the use of factory O2 sensor. Our downpipes perform better and are not prone to cracking like the alternatives offered by some of the competition. AMS' Engineering Team produced a product that doesn't just perform better, they made it sound better too.
