I’ve seen various threads and videos on hidden trackers from the dealer installed through the OBDII port, even in some instances utilizing piggyback OBD ports.

I am currently hardwiring a dashcam system and was going to unplug battery. Sure enough this is what I came across hooked directly to my terminals. A quick google lens search confirmed my suspicions, honestly thought I was in the clear after checking my OBD port.

For the newer owners check your battery terminals!

At the risk of opening up a can of worms and/or being told to us the search function. Is this a previous owner install or a dealer secretly fitting them? Do they do it for connectivity reasons as a retrofit to make a box or function work.
Kinda wanna check mine. I’m in the uk.

Apparently it is more common than I thought, at least in the US. It is dealer installed and may be used as dealer inventory control and LoJack options I imagine.

Definitely not something I’m interested in and decided to cut out this parasite from my battery. There was a recent post I saw on Reddit where it was already hooked onto their OBDII port rendering it useless. Here’s also a GR Corolla video that I found useful.
