Anyone on square 255/40R18 setup?

I'm in the middle of placing an order for Winter wheels and tires.
My initial order was for a square setup of 255/40R18 in 18x9.5 wheels and the shop I ordered from is emailing me back saying that they can't guarantee the fit on the rears as the OEM are different sizes.

I've read here and different sites that a square 255/40R18 is the recommended winter setup. Is anyone using that currently that can confirm it's a good fit?
I'm not sure if the shop wants me to go with 275 in the rears which I'm not sure is the best for winter, but I'm just going with the recommendations I've seen in the web.

Like has been mentioned in other threads you've seen and commented in, if you're planning to drive in the snow, narrower wheels/tires are generally better. If you're not and just need a tire that can handle colder temperatures, than you should be fine with 255/40/18.
