Hey everyone, I am about to pick up a BMS intake for my 2020 Supra, but I have been told that I will get sever heat soak issues, I am currently not tuned, just have the Versus intake res delete but want more sound. I am not looking for any sort of power increase with the BMS, just do not want sever heat soak or power loss. I am not regularly racing, Just normal spirited driving, and highway pulls. I do live in South Florida so it does get warm in the summer.

I have also thought about doing the Versus turbo heat shield as someone said that will prevent it from getting too hot. I do not want to risk the car overheating or being throwing into limp mode. Does anyone have any Experience with the BMS system, or any insight to add before I pull the trigger? Thanks again- Phillip

Open box intake will definitely suck in hot air from the engine bay especially in hot climate places, get the Verus turbo heatshield to bring temps in the engine bay down.

to the point where I would loose power with normal highway spirited driving? like drastically lose power? Will the heat shield make a big difference

The heat shield will help drop temps, you wont notice anything during normal driving but it will definitely reduce some power when flooring it.

I'm still curious about the BMS intake and heat soak.

However, I did stumble upon this from bmwtuning.co, but I'm still not convinced since no one else has commented for nor against their claim. :dunno:

"Ultimately, because the intake isn’t re-routed, you’re not going to see a huge decrease in air intake temps. You will maybe see a few degree drops, but nothing huge. You will not see hotter air temps at idle or full throttle, and you will not see increased heat soak. People always love to debate this, so please hit us up in the comments if you’re up for the challenge!"

So I have had it on for 2 days and Have yet to see any Heat soak with some pretty hard driving, if anything the car maybe even feels like it pulls a little stronger, but granted it's been pretty cool the last couple days, hasn't been above 80, I wouldn't be surprised at 95 degrees on a hot day it may heat soak a little quicker than stock. Overall I am very happy! it sounds great, not too loud or obnoxious but gives enough sound to hear it is not stock. A great spool noise when accelerating and a nice little flutter when letting off. Compared to a close box intake like the MST I think it is a little louder, it is def quieter then the HKS. Have not heard Injen closed or open box yet. But for 170 bucks, it is pretty awesome, will post some videos soon.

Hi OP,
I would not worry about it as its been tested since the first BMS intake was released over 10 years ago.

Here is a test BMS did to respond to the heat soak claims. Its not done on the B58 engine (since it was not available then), but the logic is the same.

Thank you so much Mike! I used factory lower box and heat shield, and not even sure if it is worth getting the Verus Heat shield. I do love that turbo sound tho!
