Glad to see the GR Supra doing well at the Lightning Lap this year! And as expected the Z06 wipes the floor with everyone else, what a machine. GM should be proud, now Corvette is not just better value for the money than Porsche/Ferrari, it's legit supercar territory too.

a 2019 ZR1 did the grand in a 2:43 for example. Razor is right about different drivers and the times. The benchmark lightning laps are cool and merit discussion, but it is far from scientific or the "best" times.

Haha, yea - it's priced well against the competition but I sure as hell still couldn't afford one. But hey- I've got my dream car so I ain't complaining!

Coming from lighter cars, I’m also looking at the weight. Hence drooling ? over that Porsche. I like the Vette too! I was thinking Stingray price and throw some mods on her. They really added a lot of cheddar $$$ to this version. But total respect ✊?

Umm, why this thread's title says Road & Track when it's supposed to be Car and Driver lol. I know they are owned by the same company but still.

Anyways, I bet what happened to the Z when R&T had it for their 2023 performance car of the year made Nissan scared of what will happen if C&D tested the Z at VIR.

So I’ll ad my 2 cents on these last two days of tracking at Homestead. I passed every make and model of car known to man in my little ole Supra. Was I the fastest person/car out there? Nope. But I can’t even remember the number of people that have come up to me and asked what I did to the engine and the basic “Is that a Supra?”. She is quite competitive with almost any vehicle with proper rubber on her… And if you take it a pinch further (such as camber), like most track peeps do, she is a beast for the money. It really is quite shocking.

And yes, even one day makes a huge difference. I was much faster on the 2nd day. It was colder, track was dry, lots of soft compound down from the day before. So you definitely can’t compare previous days or years. Larger trends, yes. But not a few milliseconds.

The fact Toyota gives us a free track day to go play is incredibly smart. What a great platform to run with the best. I’m meeting tons of new Vette and Porsche track pals. I’m sure the other Supra track drivers on this forum are doing the same. This car is quite capable to say the least :). Toyota is building quite a name for itself on track. Well done ?

I still haven’t seen a new Z06 on track yet. That would be awesome! If they were available and at MSRP, it would be quite the super car indeed. I’ve heard they are going for as much as $100k over sticker ?

Here's a grab from the Lightning Lap historical data lightning-lap-times-historical-data/ comparing results within plus or minus a half second of the manual Supra.

Look at the company the Supra is keeping! And bear in mind the automatic version would be faster in a same-day, same-driver matchup.

All those cars would be faster on the updated track/driver they used this year. You cannot compare. I mean, you can, but it would be inaccurate.

If you really think the 911 GT3RS is slower than the new Supra on that kind of track… come on.

Like I said earlier in this thread, take the emotion out and use logic.

Here is the video of the lap with commentary by the driver. He does confirm temps were ideal, but acknowledges driver differences may have played a factor as well. Other than that, he has some really high praise for the Supra's performance on track.
