I'm probably one of the few who has this problem but I live in Thailand and I have a Japanese market 2024 3.0 6MT that was imported here last year and has the Japan map file on idrive.

How do I get a map for my local area?

I will eventually use Android auto when I can figure out if the bimmertech MMI is right or if there's some other more affordable solution. In the meantime I want to at least have the map on my idrive screen to reflect my local area.

Some dude online was quoting me $420 to upload a southeast Asia map to my car but that sounds wack AF.

I thought there was an app someone came out with for android phones and making it integrate really nice with the radios on our Supras. I think it was AAidrive?

Took me two seconds to find the thread after my post. Check it out here

I Already read about aaidrive and gave it a try but it's not my cup of tea. It's a pretty janky UI and I'm looking for something more seamless.

https://a.co/d/fxNP9oq - this is what I have for my MMI unit, works perfectly.
Just make sure you've got an adapter and can do the coding reqs.

Dragos should be able to do the maps for you, reach out to him on Telegram - https://www.flashxcode.com/product/feature-installer-code/

That MMI is much more reasonably priced I think. Will likely give that one a try. You mentioned an adapter. Do you know which adapter ? Sorry I'm new to the mk5 platform and just now figuring all this out.

Thanks for the help and for chiming in.

The MHD Universal Wireless Adapter (e.g. https://www.bimecu.com/product-page/mhd-universal-wifi-adapter ) is your best bang for your buck wireless adapter. It'll do everything from transmission tuning, to coding, to ecu tuning.

The cheapest is eNet to ODB II, then an Ethernet to lightning/USB-C adapter (e.g. https://a.co/d/1c3XwGf && https://a.co/d/fr38GKm || https://a.co/d/82elDpB )

In addition, you'll need a Bimmercode license, BimmerUtility (more features than Bimmercode, but more expensive) and you'll need to code in Aux support if I remember right. Instructions are here: https://www.supramkv.com/threads/coding-aux-audio-with-bimmercode.10978/

I personally connect my phone via Bluetooth to both the car and the MMI device and have audio out through Bluetooth instead of the MMI unit, so I don't believe Aux audio out coding is necessary? Worth trying first imo.

If you don’t want to go that route if you have CarPlay can just leave it on that map

I ended up buying this MMI from Road Top at the suggestion of another forum member... https://roadtop.com/products/bmw-z4-wireless-carplay?variant=43132229026035

Will I also need the MHD universal adapter and will I need to follow the same AUX coding regimen?

To close the loop, I bought the MMI offered by Road Top. What a big mistake that was! The vendor is disreputable and caused me a lot of issues with customs enforcement here in Thailand because, he marked the value of the product at $10. He thought he was doing me a favor but I never asked him to defraud the Thailand taxman. When I told him that I was now getting hit with a huge penalty from customs enforcement because of his attempt to "help" me, he wouldn't reimburse me for the added penalties I Had to pay. I told him I would obviously pay whatever I normally would owe for customs duties, but he should be responsible for the penalty that was caused by his attempt to udervalue the shipment. Anyhow, he then turned into a real jerk. So, I would avoid buying from Road Top based on his ethics and customer service alone.
