Didn’t realize there’s a new racetrack in central Florida down the street from one of my rentals near Auburndale Off of I-4.

Never tracked a car but figure it’s close enough to start so I contacted them for pricing and boy I didn’t know tracking was this expensive. hobby would cost more than my boat running offshore weekly. Here’s a part copy of membership, for those that track, what’s the normal cost?

I love this car and would love to participate but this is way out of my tax bracket.
Geeze, we just want to drive our cars, not spend a career doing it.

I would absolutely stay away from a track like that. It's a short and a terrible layout (not to mention expensive). Your best bet is to do a track day or weekend with an organization at, say Sebring. I know NASA will be at Sebring next month and I'll be there to in case you have any questions.

PBIR used to be a fun little track I’d go to, very similar. For $650 you can do 4 hours there and listen to a sales pitch.

I rather do like David said and drive with NASA, Chin, FARA, PDG, or another big group that has experience running these things. If/when they go there, do it with them :)

I did 2 private events there last year. Its a fun little track. They make a big deal about having "elevation" but its like 70 feet over the length of the whole track. Its more fun than the FIRM, way smoother than Sebriing, but less fun overall.

Thanks for offer, never intended to track the car when I bought it. Just figured if track was 5 miles away from property than hell why not and start a new hobby. was price shock as I didn’t know what a Normal track day would cost.
the palm beach speed way about 15 miles from me closed down years ago. Closest track is in miami.

the drive to HMS isn't bad. you can definitely drive to, do a track day, and drive back the same day. the track isn't rough but cars will get tons of rock chips.

if a same-day 6 hr roundtrip for sebring is possible for multiple of us, then you can do HMS no prob

+1 to Mark's organization recommendations

If a track was that close, I’d consider membership. But I’m already a track junkie ?…. If just wanting to give it a go, try NASA, Chin or FARA Academy at Sebring for your 1st time. Go to their websites and you’ll see it’s cost a bit more because you need instruction. Once you’re solo qualified it’ll be cheaper. Eventually even free if you instruct. But you‘ll have to ride with people you don’t know in McLarens, Ferraris or Porsches that think they are incredible/invincible drivers because the supercars can do anything. Only to find out that they can spin the car in a heartbeat and hit walls just as easily (actually easier with that mindset) and with you in it.

So if even considering it… Go for it! In order of affordability:

Sebring isnt too far from there. And yes, Homestead is the other one. Typically a 1 to 3 hour drive to a track is considered close. Typical single track day you can expect $180-$600 depending on the organization, amount of track time, which track, etc. If you have any questions about any of it I'm happy to help. I've been doing this for 11 years and do a lot of coaching. Both beginner and very advanced.
