since this popped up on the latest topics column of the forum i thought i'd share a bulletin from the manufacturer i work with regarding a similar concern. Again, NOT Toyota.

Complaint
Crackling and cracking noise from the outer wheel on the front axle when cornering (i.e. left front wheel crackling when turning right)
Cause
The noise is generated by a micromovement on the contact surface between the rim and the brake disk (wheel bolt group) and may be intensified by potential soiling. The more lightweight wheel (AMG forged wheel) transmits the noise louder; in the case of cast rims, the noise is generally not perceptible.
This is not a technical defect, but rather a complaint concerning comfort. Safe operation of the vehicle is ensured at all times.
~
The fix for us is to pull the front wheels off and give the cap of the brake rotors, as well as the inner wheel hub face a couple of passes of 80 grit sandpaper. The noise is extremely noticeable before, and completely gone after the proposed remedy. Figured you guys might give this a try as its a free attempt at a repair before replacing components.
