It turns out 3M sunflower yellow looks pretty close to OEM yellow paint, might give it a shot.

Original post:

Hi all I am thinking about getting a carbon fiber hood similar to this
https://www.aeroluxeautoboutique.com/toyota/aeroluxe-mkv-supra-spec-vrs-carbon-fiber-hood-1

But the problem is my car is in nitro yellow, and it might look a bit weird without color matching....

So my question is do people generally wrap it or just directly paint the hood?

And I am also wonder what is the general cost of it.

Any recommendation and suggestion are welcomed!

Wrapping will look weird because you won't be able to match Nitro Yellow perfectly, I think the closest would be 3M Gloss Sunflower Yellow...but even then that would be a noticeable difference up close.

If you are planning on painting - ask a bodyshop local to you prior to ordering. Paint alone might be $500, but the problem with painting is you'll need to paint match and blend which then adds to the total so it doesn't look different from OEM paint.

Yea, I am definitely worried about the paint match. I am just thinking if I wrap it, I can remove the wrap when I need to sell it, probably much easier to sell then a paint carbon-fiber hood, given not much owner has yellow one.

The only thing I can suggest is buy the parts for you now and worry about having to sell later when the time comes. I had similar feelings about my CF hood which is why I wrapped my car to match instead, but now idrc after my next wrap the carbon hoods gonna be paint matched nitro yellow.

Hypothetically speaking if there is a future owner who buys your hood and wants to paint match the (raw CF) hood they would still need to prep the hood so your yellow paint isn't a big deal maybe adding couple hours more of labor for them lol

You shouldn't be. Any decent painter won't have an issue matching the original paint colour. Thats what differentiates a "real" spray painter from a "pretend" spray painter. It aint rocket science to a pro. As for $2000, well if it's quality CF without pinholes that often drive the spray painter nut's during the prep then it shouldn't be anywhere near $2000 in costs.
The materials aren't that expensive either in the grand scheme of things.

I got quotes from 2-3k on paint-matching the hood from 3 well-recommended shops in the DFW area. Two of them said they'd need the car for a "few weeks" to "blend-in" with the other body panels (front bumper and fenders). ??

Wrap quotes were about $500 including material.

However, a buddy of mine got his CF hood paint matched to his Refraction Blue for only $600 and it came out perfect. Go figure. :dunno::what:

Yea quotes like that mean they don't really want the job. I've had rear and front plastic bumper/clips painted and they actually came out a better colour match than the factory. A lot of factory plastic bumper and front clips are a half a shade off right out of the assembly line and I've had them repaired/replaced and told the painter i expect it to be a lot better colour match than the factory match he's looking at. I've left the car for an hour and the painter has matched the colour and saved the paint and then they order the new bar/clip paint it with the paint they've already matched and I return a week or so later and they fit it up in 45 minutes after removing the old bar. Always been a perfect match. Needing to blend in the paint is what you get from painters that can't colour match to any degree of accuracy. Acceptable on a larger side repair for example when you need to blend into already existing paint of a large panel but ridiculous for a hood, door or front/rear bar in isolation.
As for needing the car for a few weeks!
