So I found the Supra in red 2024 with the exact specs I wanted.
Dealer mentioned that it’s a demo vehicle from Toyota that they used for their show car.

It has 27 miles on it
I asked for carfax and it shows new vehicle. They said it’ll be registered as new with the warranty and everything else that comes with a new car.

Only thing is that the dealer has to sell it to me as a used car.
I’ll be filling out a dmv reg 496 - used vehicle registration form (demonstrator or executive vehicle)

They were asking msrp plus 6k markup, got them to drop the markup.

Is this a good deal?

You should ask for a discount. New Supras are going for MSRP.

I did but no dice on that. would msrp be a deal breaker?
Is there issues on this type of a car vs “brand new”.

I consider it new it’s just them selling it as a used is weird.

The car’s vehicle history will always report that you are the second owner of this car. The number of previous owners may impact resale value. How much? Idk, but I wouldn’t want to eat that cost.

For me, it’s also about the principle of the matter. You’re technically buying a used car but paying new price. Perhaps 1-2 years ago when it was really difficult to get your hands on a Supra, it might have been worth considering. Now, Supras are easy to find. Even if it meant getting some insignificant discount like $500, I’d feel better about the deal.

Just my 2 cents. If none of the above matters to you, and this is the spec that you’ve been waiting for, go for it. Your money, do what you want.

No this is helpful and I appreciate you providing me information on this.
If they do give a discount then it’s a deal in your opinion?

for the second owner item, I had them pull carfax and send it, it doesn’t list anyone as a first owner so not sure if I’ll be listed as first or second.

For the vehicle to be able to driven around as a demo car, it would have to be registered. That is my understanding, but don't hold me to that. There was another Supra in stratosphere blue that someone was trying to sell on this forum. It was THE demo car that journalists were driving around in the midwest. That car definitively showed that Toyota was the first owner.

Yea, I'd say grab a discount and go for it. Twenty-seven miles seems like nothing so I agree that you'd be getting essentially a new car. Maybe I'm making it too big of a deal.

Maybe a Supra GTS 2023 MT, Kia Stonic GT, Mazda CX5 GT SP
Mate it's got 27 miles on it FFS, it's a new car even if it shows it's been previously registered. Take an image of the Odo when you take delivery and if you're paranoid about resale then get a letter from the dealer or something. First world problems.

Now I'm on a different continent where we generally don't have markups.. but here, a demo car = big discount. Shit, I'd expect a discount on floor stock! Granted the car only has 27 miles on it which means it hasn't really been driven but there's other things to think about. Who knows how many people have sat in it; Revved it to red-line; rubbed their oily fingers all over it, etc. If I'm paying a new car price, I want a new car!

Also, what others have mentioned about being the second owner is both a negative but also a solid bargaining chip - new cars depreciate as soon as they're driven off the lot; this one has already started depreciating! And so their price should reflect that, in my opinion: If they need to sell it as a second hand car, then I'd need to see a significant discount.

Having said all that, I know the US market is a bit loony, so if you do go for it, I'd suggest you triple check every surface, inside and out: Treat it like a second hand car purchase, ie: thoroughly check the seats for wear; check the engine condition; etc.

Not a good deal at MSRP. Not a good deal as sold as used. If its used then you are not getting new. Whats the 'in service' date on the warranty. If its used warranty clock is already running possibly.

You want a good deal - Find another one or tell them 2k off the price as its used and an extended warranty. If not then move on. The market all over the place, here in Europe or the US is soft. Its almost back to pre-covid levels. Not sensing that dealer is worth wasting more time on. Its a buyers market more so than in the recent past. There are how many Supra's for sale now?

400miles used in Texas: 24 Supra 58,700$ as an example

New in CA https://www.toyotavacaville.com/new-toyota-supra-vacaville-ca
Sale Price $61,424

Just looking around those normal US auto-sales sites I see more than a few price drops as well. Values are falling. Not rising. DO NOT pay NEW for a car labeled USED. No need to rush now. Winter is here and maybe travel a bit to get a better deal.

In my opinion there's a few things you're also not taking into account.

1. Used means you get used interest rates
2. Used means you shouldn't be paying destination, freight, pdi, etc., which in itself is a couple thousand dollars

The difference in rates could be the determining point for me, but buying a car with 27 miles on it really doesn't seem like an issue. Demo cars typically aren't trashed because Toyota is still on the hook for them and they have a reputation to uphold.

Just my 2 cents

Typically when the dealer calls a car a demo with such few miles... this means the dealer has taken some of the manufactures incentives toward dealer credits, aka punched, write offs, etc.

I purchased a bmw that only had a 100 miles on it (punched) and the dealer still sold it to me as a new car, discounted off msrp and with a full manufacturer warranty. The car was never titled prior to me purchasing it.

I'd do what many are suggesting here. There are two ways I would go about it if I was going to purchase the car.

First I would ask what the in-service vehicle date is like another member suggested so you know when the warranties will be up on it.

Second I would ask for 1 of 2 things. I'd either ask for a couple thousand off MSRP if it was truly put in the system as a demo and the warranty date has already started OR I would ask to have a no charge 10yr/100k warranty with $0 deductible at NO CHARGE to you. If you can get both even better
