Downshifting question

Was playing around with the car trying to get the loudest pops when downshifting for fun this evening (at the track). Found that around 3.5-4k rpm from 3rd to 2nd had the loudest pops. I did this maybe 6-7 times then i couldn’t do it again as the car forced me to stay in 3rd. Is this the nature of the built in protector or did I break something? I thought ZF transmissions were unbreakable? … appreciate any input.

ZF transmissions are fantastic, but they're not idiot proof. Hope that helps! :thumbsup:
Is it that bad to downshift at high RPMs a couple of times? Will this hurt the trans?

Is this a troll? Redline is 7k, and any concern about overrevving on a downshift would be for the engine (valves, meet pistons - now kiss!), not the transmission.

I’ve seen money shifts kill transmissions. However, you’re not gonna money shift an auto. The car literally won’t allow if.

I'd imagine if you do it too many times in a row, especially if you're doing spirited / track driving while doing so, you may end up over-heating the transmission leading to it not wanting to shift for safety reasons. That's the only possibly explanation I can think of, and not a very likely idea either.

Bro if it makes you feel better, the week after I got a CDV delete I money shifted my car. Went 3 to 2 instead of 3 to 4. Still trucking along 12,000 miles and multiple track days later. You have an auto. Contrary to what another comment said here, you physically cant harm the auto trans as there is no mechanism that will allow it to do so.
