Final Edition Duckbill (wing) removal WARNING

Just in case nobody as posted or tried.

The Final Edition duck bill is not only 3m tape on it is also glued on with a material that looks like windshield glue.
It has two bolts in the middle that have to be removed as that’s the easy part.
Using the traditional heat up fishing line method the line sawed right through the glue and into the hatch. Instead of the wing coming off it put a nice size hole.
Even if you succeed without a hole you still won’t be able to eraser wheel off the glue as it’s on the hatch. So needless to say 4500 dollars later this removal and damage wasn’t fun.
Not sure why this glue was used but wanted to for warn anyone.

Yeah I just walked back inside the house and gathered my thoughts lol I was so pissed. So hopefully this week it will have the carbon fiber hatch and street hunter on.

That's BETA LINK BMW glue.
It is a PITA to remove. Eraser wheel will make quick work of that

Hi, I was planning to get the adro v3 wings and remove the duckbill off my FE as well. I was aware there would be two holes on the trunk already from the mount. I just have a few questions. How come you had to get a carbon trunk, are you not able to clean off the glue on the oems? How did it put a hole(other the oem holes) in the trunk after removing it. Can you please provide some more pictures as I really want to know if I want to proceed to get a new wing or not. Any help is appreciated. Thank you

Sorry I didn’t see the post, the fishing line removing the must have got caught in the glue and went into the plastic trunk literally about the size of a baseball hole was removed or shaved off. Also the glue to get it off will be difficult as well as I wouldn’t use an eraser wheel as that plastic will remove paint. So getting the glue off wouldn’t be fun but I am sure you can use a plastic scraper and good gone maybe.

And now the body shop calls and tells me the street hunter wing fitment is atrocious!
And how much fiber glass and forming they have to do. The one side fits but driver said leaves major gaps. Nothing like speeding top money for a wing to have terrible molds.

I had a friend who ran a cf trunk and was gona buy a SH wing. I put our cars side by side and noticed that his cf trunk was a slightly different shape (barely noticeable but it’s slightly more… rounded/lower ish?) compared to the oem.

while fitment for SH wings may be bad, if its that bad, its highly likely that your cf trunk is not the same shape as the oem one.
