Sorry OP, don’t have a good answer for this other than maybe eBay an airbag assembly?

But for anyone else trying to get the airbag to release on the MKV, try pressing down on the airbag (like you’re pushing in the horn) and then gently feel for a spring mechanism.

You should feel the flex of the spring with light force and this is true for all car airbags - I just swapped out the steering wheel and paddles on the TTRS last weekend and similar process.

No expert but I imagine your current situation will have no impact on the working of the airbag itself. The spring is not sitting in front of the airbag itself. As far as I know an airbag breaks open the steering wheel material in front of it before reaching the body it needs to protect.

Find something like a clip you can screw down and then epoxy to keep the spring in place. Obviously don't use a 1 inch screw.

You should get a new airbag assembly. That thing is torched.

I might actually have one laying around in the shop, I'd have to look.
