Driving in Vegas always felt like the streets were coated in grease; factor on top of that for this weekend that it'll be cold and raining with no sun to help warm anything, can Pirelli even deliver a tire that'll grip at all?
True but… they have put down all new pavement and so many millions of dollars into this race, I don’t know if anyone knows the true final number. Trees have been moved, that’s pissed people off, it’s changed the “scene”, it’s messed up traffic flow, you name the controversy around this one. But people either forget or don’t know Vegas is an adapt, blow up, build it again town there for pure entertainment & profit. At least that section of Vegas. Always has been, always will be. It think the local government is putting in a whopping 80 million in hopes more might discover the town and continue to vacation there. There’s been worse marketing dollars spent, that’s for sure.

I hope it goes well for all the effort. I’m also pissed I have to work 😭 - but will be cramming in the reruns on my new F1 subscription ❤

I mean thats what its all about to the business side correct? Look at Monaco, they don't race there because its great racing. lots of other tracks are sleepfests, they go because the dollars it brings in.

Everyone is saying this is going to be the worst race of the year, worst track design ever (like no one has ever seen Monza with 2 sweeping 180's and a sweeping 90 with a couple chicanes) and maybe it will be, or maybe it will be a great race. I also see tons of reports that it's going to be freezing, it'll be around 50-55* F1 has had plenty of races in those temps.
Right on brother! That’s all you have to say - Monaco. There is no way it can be worse than that.

They spent almost half a billion just for the paddock and land it sits on alone, just around 220-240 million each. It sucked for the workers at the casinos during the repaving. But also did a ton for the city and infrastructure there. If anyone has drove down the strip, they know how bad the road was. They fixed irrigation and the shitty road. They estimate this will bring in 1.5 billion to the economy at least. Yes, most will go to the big business's, but there are plenty of smaller mom and pop stores around that area also. And hotels all over are at increased occupancy. (Both my fiancé and son work for South Point and numbers this week are about full, on a non-event weekend they are never over much more then 1/2 full. We doubt they sell out, but they are close)

They stated about 3 weeks after the race things will be back to normal and then once a year they will have to sit it up about a month before the race and then tear it down. After this weekend it'll be much smoother.

I just hope for a good race, last night it forecasted 55* temps at lights out for the race and extremely small chance of rain now.

Forecast looking better. Strange this evening they didn’t put the time there like they have been since Saturday. I was normally saying 10pm start time temps

Did any of you guys watch the "opening ceremony"? What's yalls take? I'm not understanding the hate so much. I read the hate about when they were at Austin and Miami, but to me, if I paid thousands to get to an event, and was able to go to a "show" I don't get the hate? Like you are out here and wanna soak up all the F1 you can, why not do it to some music and lights and all? It seems like most the Europeans bitching about it just want to watch racing, which is fine.... but then why don't they just tune in as soon as the race starts then shut it off right after? Why watch the trophy presentation "show" and all that? Just watch the racing, not a single person had a gun to their head and forced them to watch the opening ceremony.

I guess that's just where society is, lets always bitch about anything.

It truly is. Social media is fully flooded with it, so many people offended by what their eyeballs fall on and think they're entitled to demand everyone else change to protect the delicate feelers behind those eyeballs. And why not? There are no consequences to being outwardly enraged online. We have less of that in this group than most places. Over my many years of Supra ownership across each gen, I find Supra owners tend to be pretty level headed (well, maybe not Mk4 🤣 )

I'm looking forward to FP1 tonight.

Buddy posted this… so many were complaining about the disruption, which is understandable. But at least they are making a little more next few days.

I watched it. I expected more honestly. Half of the artists performing I had never heard of. I would have expected bigger names for Las Vegas of all places.
Would've expected more interaction with the drivers instead of just a quick wave. Maybe a short interview with some, or all.

Max and a fast car, in the rain. Sounds like an easy win.
Long course with not a whole lot of braking and turns. Who knows what's going to happen from second place on.
My fingers are crossed for Nando on podium, again.
If I had my way, every podium would be Max, Norris, Alonso, in that order 👍🏻🤘🏼

RIP FP1 maybe FP2, sainz floor, and an Alpine chassis.

I think they are only supposed to use the track for 7 hours at a time - better get those track checks and repairs done sharpish

Agreed on the last part... unsurprising on the first part however. This city has always been home to the "fantastic failures" entertainment-wise. At least since the Sinatra & Sammy Davis Jr. days. Most A-list celebrities have a house (or two) here... but they tend to perform here only after their career is on life-support. :D

I was pretty sure that the FIA has to homologate a race track at least 30 days before the event, I could be confusing that with Moto GP since I’ve followed that since 99. But I was for sure that F1 had the same criteri. Maybe @Dannyvandelft coukd shead some light on that, but anyway, I read that Las Vegas got around this some how…. Guess this is what happens when they cut corners. Of course if I recall this happened at Monaco or Baku before.
