The SC300s also had a longer wheelbase, 106" vs 100", which doesn't sound like a lot, but its roughly the difference between a BRZ (101") and a Mustang (107")

Yes. 92-00 SC's (and 91-00 Soarers) are long cars. Mechanically they're nearly the same as a Supra MKIV (since the MKIV was heavily based on their chassis and suspension) but they ride a bit differently and are very much big luxury GT coupes.

You do feel the wheelbase difference between an MKIV and an SC/Soarer even though both cars allow very similar high horsepower experiences with the right hardware.

As an owner of a turbo SC and a GR86 the wheelbase difference alone is night and day (not to mention 3600lbs for my SC vs 2850lbs for a stock GR86/BRZ). Two very different cars but both very appealing in their own ways.

The Lexus LC coupe is the closest thing Toyota has made as a very high end successor to the original 92-00 SC: Big, long, now much more powerful but still a traditional luxury GT coupe.

.....

The Supra MKIV's chief designer didn't initially want to use the Soarer platform for the basis but was required to by Toyota brass of the time. Top brass also wanted to retain the 2+2 seating layout. I believe he wanted it to be a two seater but was overruled. So he did everything he could to lighten and optimize the MKIV within those mandated parameters.

And the result was great and still very heavily differentiated from the Soarer/SC platform starting point.
