I feel you, I'm hyper aware of my car and just want it to back to feeling 100% again. Keep me updated!

Don‘t know if you’ve considered tracking the car. Having adjustable control arms are a nice option if so. You can get more negative camber and give a really experienced alignment shop more flexibility. I use a shop where that is all they do. Alignments. The independent owner fixes dealer mistakes, works on drift cars, track cars, trucks & does it all. Takes a while to get in with him but the feel is night & day after he sets it.

So, my car (2022 Supra) has the same issue. I can’t recall if it started before or after I lowered it on the MSS kit, but the steering at dead center feels “notchy” like it’s skipping or something. It’s hard to explain but there is definitely a steering related issue. I’ve noticed other weird issues like it goes from heavy to light randomly. Can we figure out and commonalities between these cars, if anything at all? Mine is freely aligned, and lowered. That’s it as far as suspension related changes.

There are posts on the BMW forums of this same issue...some have had it fixed by replacing the upper steering column mechanism. Others have taken it to the dealership only to have it diagnosed as a faulty rack...replaced and still have the issue.

I am experiencing same on my 2020 started right after I got the tires replaced at 32k, I'm not lowered either. Seems like it goes away and comes back on mine.

Just checking in to see if anyone has found a fix for these symptoms. My steering has started to get notchy too and it's getting annoying ? It seems to start acting up after the car's warmed up and I've been driving for a while.

I wonder if it's just a symptom of electronic power steering that some drivers notice more than others. I hate the EPS on my wife's CR-V. It has the same issue. Every other car we've owned had hydraulic power steering and never had an issue with the feel around center of either stickiness or looseness.

I also wonder if it has to do with cars that have lane-keep assist functions, because whatever mechanism is added to the steering system to make that function may have a little natural play in it that could result in an odd feel in the wheel.

Just a couple random thoughts from another EPS disliker. :drive:

Absolutely make sure you do NOT have that lane assist feature on. I have mine set to always off. It’s not only dangerous when not on the highway, it feels gawd awful!

I have 13k km on my car, nearly 2 years old, recently I have a feeling that I can "feel" much more road structure on the steering wheel (steering wheel doesn't vibrate), especially from front left wheel (since it's closest to the driver and steering column). Line assist in completely off, I don't use it. I examined the steering rack and in my opinion there's an axial play in the area marked on the picture. I can feel it with my hand when I move the steering column in the area where that grey plastic cover is mounted. There's absolutely no noise coming from the steering rack during maneuvering, while vehicle is parked or in motion, so I'm sure it's not the preload of the rack. There's also no "play" nor "slop" in the steering while driving, there's an immediate response to the steering wheel while driving (therefore I eliminated preload as a problem).

Can somebody check if this axial play is a common thing or not please? I already checked and excluded unbalanced wheels, loose ball joints or suspension. Today I had geometry aligned by Toyota dealership and tomorrow they are supposed to check EPS and adaptive dampers for potential fault codes but I'd like to get us much info on my own as possible, since Toyota is very weak on servicing Supra's, today the guy at Toyota didn't know how to open the bonnet ...

Brayan @razorlab has a post where you can make preload adjustments that can reduce play or was it adjust steering shaft play? I can’t remember, I don’t have the issue and thus didn’t want to mess with it. But remember thinking how the Fock did he find that and should I do it ?. Hopefully that may help you…

I had EPS and active dampers checked by Toyota dealership yesterday, no issues found. Today they checked the alignment again, everything is OK. Since there's no noise on the rack & pinion, I don't think there's a need to change the preload setting at this point. Looks like everything is within norm so far, there's still 1.5 year of warranty left ?
