Living in east Tennessee?

46 years old, married, no kids. Lived in Tucson AZ. Pretty much my whole life. Traveled to most US states and the wife and I really like eastern Tennessee. Wife really wants to retire there when we can. I am debating maybe Bristol or Johnson City area also. All seem to have good health care options which would be important to us. Crime seems lower in Bristol / Johnson City area from what I can see online. Any tips, advice, good, bad, to look out for? Knoxville would be outskirts like Halls area or something like that, no downtown.

Jealous...I've lived in Northern Ilinois my whole life but traveled to the Smokies with my parents every year as a kid, as well as traveled to Memphis a lot for work....its a beautiful state.

Maryville, just SW of Knoxville, isn't bad. You get a view of the mountains and generally everything you need. Can still get into Knoxville in ~ 30min if you need particular stores or for concerts and better restaurants.

(I don't live there but have family there and have visited nearly annually for decades)

Thats exactly where I'm heading. My significant Other is in Maryville.

I used to live in East Tennessee (Knoxville) for 10 years. My wife's family lives in Sevier county. No state income tax to speak of and high sales tax. Knoxville is an oversized college town. I would move further out than Halls for a retirement place. I would test drive your anticipated final area for a couple weeks prior to committing. You may not like the humidity and the southern hospitality.

My exwife was from Racoon Valley (outside of Knoxville). Several of her family raced dirt at Atomic Speedway. was a cool area. No idea now- haven't been back in 30 years
