But to answer your question; each state has an emissions inspection they can vary from annually, to every two years, or none at all like FL.

California is the strictest with smog checks and what not. So running any downpipe there won’t let you pass the inspection and can’t keep registration up to date. If you wanna get a downpipe there, may as well go cat less and replace it with the stock one every year when inspection time is coming up.

In a place like TX, only some counties do emissions as part of their yearly inspection.

On the other extreme, FL doesn’t give a shit and you can go catless. There’s no yearly inspection or emissions testing.
