Hello everyone

Does the manual Supra have a transmission oil cooler like the auto has?

If not, is that space available for something else? An engine oil cooler perhaps.

Thanks

It does not - and not really required.

It also does not have a pump with which to pump said fluid

spur-gear transmissions don't generate the same heat as a planetary auto so that's a benefit.

Manual Supra has a dedicated cooling duct in the underbody to help cool, but yeah manual transmission doesnt get as hard because there arent much parts slipping in it

Thanks for replies guys.

So the question is what does a manual Supra have in the space where the auto has its transmission cooler?

I am guessing that space is just unused. If that is correct, it could be used for a front mounted engine oil cooler.

Thanks

Nothing from what I see on the parts diagram. Another idea, what if we add the AT heat exchanger in but use it for engine cooling with some custom lines?;)

They show it as having an actual pump as opposed to the classic 'guided splash-lube' system we're used to in manual gearboxes. However, what pressure said pump can generate and how the oil is distributed are unknowns.

The auto trans cooler just sits in front of the front radiator stack.

Trans cooler --> intake heat exchanger --> engine radiator

Thanks for sharing that. It looks quite big. Will probably need to throw a thermostat in there somewhere.

Yeah it may be the same pump as in the G80 M3 since it's essentially the same base box (GS6-5XX), if that's the case it's for the gearbox's dry sump system which is very rare in manual boxes, helps significantly with keeping temps uniform inside (such as hard cornering and a shaft doesnt get splashed enough).

well fmd, that's brilliant!

Here is why you don't assume things, haha.

when you put a pump in, normally you have the flow through the input/layshafts, and oil squirting into gear mesh through holes in forks, shafts, sometimes even in the root of the gear tooth

well, that's how we design them at work and it works well.
