I'm with razorlab. It's also possible the brakes weren't bled well from the factory. I flushed mine and switched to Castrol SRF pretty much right away. My pedal feels quite firm. Definitely much firmer than my WRX.

Quick update: Brakes do feel firm (no bleeding issue), braking hard when I can (and later in general), car is now at 3,000 mi, and brakes have mostly cleaned up as can be seen in the photo, and look much more similar to eachother. Thanks for all the feedback. I have personally only bedded brakes once, on wife's '12 Camry, after installing OEM rotors and pads, took it on the highway in evening, braked hard slowing down from 70mph to 30mph ten times or so, then continued driving for 15 minutes before stopping. After three years in the rustbelt, the rotors and pads are holding up very well. The Supra shop manual does explicitly advise against doing such a thing.
