Have you ever heard of Spring Mountain? It’s a racetrack paganis race on that is now sponsored by Chevy to teach c8 owners how to track. Every new c8 comes with a discounted course (like what we have but much much better)

You get three full track days with instructions in a loaded c8 THEY own (don’t have to beat your own car) they have no modifications done to the car at all. Every day those cars are beat on for 8+ hours in the Vegas 100+ degree heat. The car never loses power from the heat as long as you are moving quick because of the intake design.

I love my Supra but they are not comparable at all. I’d say the Supra is only half the car the c8 is as far as the track is concerned
An impressive machine all round. Cooling maximized. Almost it appears every weakness has been addressed from the previous generation. The ZO6 is also multiple radiators across the front. Should be a strong track machine. The base C8 is clearly capable as well. So impressive.

So we agree?

If you think the c8 will go into limp mode from heat soak the way the Supra does then no. There are lots of better equipped cars for under 200k than the Supra

My second home can see the track from the back yard... they had a transport trailer with 6-8 C8's on it parked off-track last weekend. Next to it was a closed trailer with Chevrolet livery... I wonder if there were Z06's inside it? Seemed like there was some kind of press event the next day, but I was busy painting all day so didn't wander over there. There were some spicy sounds in the afternoon however. ;)

Hmm. I know several Supra guys who do lots of track days that are pretty much stock and have not had limp issues. I have only done one track day but had no issues. But it probably depends where you are tracking if your car is stock power, etc. I can ping Jackie Ding about it as he is pretty open to what issues he has tracking his Supra.

And yes there are better equipped cars for sure but not too many in the $49-55K range which is what most of us paid (and I am coming from an SS1LE, GT350, and C7 Z51/magride).

And I love Corvette and am really impressed with GM for even giving us this new Z06, but with their past history there is no way I would buy this car for at least 18 months until we understand reliability with the new motor.

Heat soak is a legit issue in our cars. It does not go into limp mode, but you can see the IATs and feel the reduced power.

Have you looked into the turbo heat shield from Verus? I have it on my black friday wish list. I have had good experience with Verus stuff in the past and it seems like cheap insurance.

Yes I do. It does and did help this year.

Over winter i am looking into further cooling- I track about 3-4 times a month. Not for money or anything but it is pride that gets me when i see my back stretch speed down a couple mph due to hot IAT

Yes I am more of a casual maybe track 3-4 times a whole year type of guy and definitely not pushing the car to it's maximum abilities like you :)

As long as you are having fun... no minimum on number of times to enjoy the car.

The more i track, the more i realize i need more skill :) The car is better than me for sure.

Agreed... and hopefully they have (at a minimum) about 100K worth of better equipment than a Supra with 30K in upgrades. ;)
