Oil filter housing replacement

Was wondering if any one had any experience or knows the proper procedure of oil filter housing re install? Came to my attention previous botch shop put rtv on my old oil filter housing gasket and reused the same gasket and housing on my new engine.

I think these things have a history of leaking eventually at some point so it's probably best to replace it anyway if the cost isn't outrageous. I'm assuming BMW doesn't sell the seals as a separate part here. There should be no reason to use RTV on the seals at all and if the housing is relatively new and in good condition, I'd clean it off and check the sealing rings carefully for any damage at all and check the that the seal rings haven't taken a compression set and reinstall it.

Wow, rather than spend $24 for new seals (option A), they went with option C.

Option B is simply cleaning the original rubber seals and mounting surface, without the use of RTV.

I guess option D is to remove the seal and only use RTV.

Good to know you can get new seals only. Yea silicon's a bad choice there. Check the housing face isn't warped before fitment though
