One month TuxMat Rubber Failure on a MT Supra

Hello everyone,

I would just like to provide a user experience update for those considering TuxMat floor mats, particularly if you own a MT Supra.

I placed my order for my Toyota Supra TuxMat's on 6/12/23. Today is 7/15/23 and I have put only 500 miles on my car since I bought these mats, so roughly one month with my mats and the rubber layer on top of the mat has completely come off.

I will be honest, at first I absolutely loved my TuxMat's and really preferred them to the weathertech mats I've had in the past. However, now with this experience, I am quite disappointed in the quality and ultimate lack of longevity and durability.

The rubber piece on top of the mat and beneath the pedals is really annoying for us Manual Transmission owners because the grip does not allow your heel to slide back and forth easily which should be the case for normal operation. With only 500 miles and one month of use, the sliding of the heel back and forth has caused that rubber layer to separate from the mat.

I have reached out to TuxMat customer service with this problem and have requested a replacement driver side mat. I even requested if it was possible to get a mat without the added rubber topper. I will follow up with you all once I receive a response.

In addition, I have made a suggestion and recommended that they design a set of mats specifically for the manual transmission Supras where the rubber piece is only the width of the gas and brake pedal leaving the normal mat texture in front of the clutch pedal so that this no longer is an issue.

Really hoping I can get a mat without the rubber layer. If not, hopefully the replacement mat has better quality and hopefully in the future they design a set for the MT Supra's to prevent this from happening again because I really do want to keep and be happy with these mats as the coverage is excellent.

However, if the experience doesn't change, I will request a refund and try 3D Maxpider mats next or even go back to weathertechs, neither of which have as good of coverage unfortunately.

That is a pretty shitty glue job to come completely off like that after a month of use, MT or not. Hope they make it right. Was thinking of getting TuxMats for the wife's car, but this is giving me second thoughts. They seem really popular, but not sure how much of that is down to marketing vs. quality.

Yeah, I'm pretty disappointed. Definitely hope they make it right and also hoping maybe I just got a dud. But the design of the rubber pad underneath the clutch pedal sucks. They really should consider designing a mat with a shorter rubber pad that is just for the gas and brake pedals or having the pad be smooth under the clutch pedal and grippy at the gas and brake. Regardless, definitely need better glue. You can see in the pictures that it seems like there was barely any used.

I love the amount of coverage these TuxMats give and the material of the mat itself seems awesome. But yeah, this rubber pad and its lack of durability is really taking away from what seems to be a great mat and I totally can see why people love these. But yeah, pretty big bummer but hoping customer service comes through clutch and the replacement is better. Definitely will update.

Who the hell designs a two piece right under where your shoe goes for accel/brake?.
That's like the number 1 "unintended acceleration" cause there is.

They should sew it and use appropriate glue...

hahaha yeah the weather has not been kind to us lately so my shoes have been picking up dirt left and right from all the rain recently so i've been waiting to clean my mats. well, Now theres really no point ??

Just bought the car and got ppf done and ordered and installed the tuxmats because a lot of other forum-goers recommended it.

Please do let us know how there support is. Looking back now the weathertechs are only like $115 but the tuxmats from amazon were about $140, if they do start to break up for me I'll probably go with weathertechs.

I always thought TuxMat were tacky looking and [to me] looked like a shit quality product.

Always have gone with WeatherTech, MaxSpyder and have never been disappointed.

I ended up paying an insane amount of money for them due to needing to have them shipped via a re-shipping company.. but I have to say they're great in my MT.

Good to know! That will be my next option if my replacement Tuxmat doesn’t suffice!

That’s great! Yeah I don’t foresee my problem being an issue for owners with AT cars. It’s definitely due to the clutch engagement/disengagement.

+1 for Maxspider 3D, I have a set going for 4 years strong! A simple soap wipe and they look brand new. They don't shift around and feel great. Keeps simple rainy days contained.

great to hear! Definitely leaning towards trying those out because I have a feeling the replacement tuxmats are still going to have the same problem. That damn rubber pad underneath the heel when using the clutch ??

I love the Tuxmats, had them for over 3k miles with no issues. Hopefully they replace it for you!
