Rattle noise

So my car was rattling for a few days and driving me nuts. Really honed in on the sound and it was the passenger side. I opened the hood and found this piece just sitting. I have never touched nor seen this piece in my life. It was just sitting near the passenger side where the hood strut area is by the little mesh guard cubby thing. Any idea where this clips in place? Can’t seem to find out where it goes.

Standard BMW thing. This is the part that lets you know your engine bay is dusty as fuck and you need to clean it before posting any photos online.

It goes just to right side of your left hand hood hinge and clips on as a vertical side piece to the windshield cowl.
